Re: Dom3 Magic Sites Excel
Hi Edi, et all.
Does anyone know for certain whether or not there is a way to mod in an in-game description of magic-sites? I'm thinking not, which is unfortunate because all you've got is this evocative name and no background for it.

Re: Dom3 Magic Sites Excel
No, there is not, and we ain't getting it either no matter how loud we howl. It's this way intentionally. Back when Dom3 was still under development, Endoperez and I pestered KO and JK about it for much the same reason, but we got told a flat no. The devs want to keep the sites without descriptions precisely because it will allow each player to let their imagination run wild. And after hearing the reasoning, I actually agree with it.
Unless I get to write the descriptions, of course.

I don't think we'd all be done a terrible wrong if I wrote the descriptions, either

Re: Dom3 Magic Sites Excel
ETA for a current magic site list, including site levels, frequencies and terrain masks is sometime next week. The new sites are going to lack the frequency and terrain masks because I don't have them and I don't have time for extensive testing (The weapons, armor and unit DBs are a higher priority). I'll also release the poptype and fort lists in the same bunch.
Some of the data will unfortunately be in a format that will only be directly useful once the Unit DB is ready, because it was far more convenient to refer to recruitable and summonable units by number than full name, but that is the price for using beta documentation.
Once I've got most of the DBs ready, I can devote more time to producing a final, more user friendly spreadsheet.

Re: Dom3 Magic Sites Excel
I posted a half-assed update to the site list several weeks ago.
So your half-assedness is redundant!
Anyway, if you run "strings" on the dom3 executable (all kudos to Gandalf Parker for pointing this out) this is what the tail end of the site list looks like:
Code:
Desert
The Forgotten City
The City of the Damned
Merman Village
This spell will bring to life one prominient servant of the empire as a Mummy. Mummies are powerful undead beings that can command both the living and the undead.
:Mummification
Davanas are demon titans of ancient times. After the great wars with the Devatas of Kailasa they were banished to the nether realms, where they made themselves kings. With this ritual they can be summoned to serve a new God on its path to ascendancy.
:Summon Davanas
Which strongly suggests that Merman Village is indeed the end of the site array.
Looking forward to the completed docs, Edi! Thanks for the hard work.

Yes, it is. For some reason or another, my test map crapped out on me the first few times I tried to assign the numbers from the end of the array, but those problems went away later and I was able to get The City of the Damned and Merman Village to show. I believe I admitted to that a few posts ago.
I'll try to hurry, but my gf is monopolizing the computer for a school project on Saturday and on Sunday I'm going to concentrate on actually playing the game with a friend for a change. Otherwise I'd try to get it done earlier.
