Stellar Abilities
Do they work? I've been trying to use the "Star- Unstable" stellar ability, and no matter what I do, the star NEVER explodes. I set it to 99, then 100, ran the game for a year.. no stars blew, even though they all had this ability.

They work if you select in the game setting catastrophic events and then choose the desired probability. I had several stars exploded in my games. But it might still take more than a year. Best if you choose a large galaxy and for your race the "ancient" trait.

Percentages are in TENTHS in this file (and in most of the config files). If you set the chance for ability to 100 then there was only a 10 percent chance that the star would even have the ability. If you set the chance for it to explode to 100 then you set it to only a 10 percent chance that it would make the star blow up each year (or is it turn -- I think it's per year).

Re: Stellar Abilities
Ah, thanks. It said %, so I assumed it was out of 100
Normal stars have a really low chance to explode then.. 1/10 of a percent per year.
Q: I made a special ability type for the exploding star, then put nothing but that in. The idea is to start the game off with chaos- put some of this systems around, then allow the player to start ONLY in them. Result? Mad rush to get the heck out of dodge. :-)
Then again, the AI would probably get blown to cinders by that..

Wait till we have the map editor then you can do that but for the human player! The AI will as you say most probably not react properly.

Re: Stellar Abilities
Hrm. I set it to 1000... still nothing. Odd. (at this point, I just want to see if it works at all!)

Re: Stellar Abilities
Did you start a new game after changing the settings?
I changed the settings on my Black Holes, as I thought they were to weak, and since I am currently in the middle of the game and it did not change the writing associated with it and most likely the setting either.
From that I am assuming that the settings are set up at the start of a new game and can not be change. Though maybe I am doing something wrong (a good chance!)

Re: Stellar Abilities
Yeah, I did.. no effect. 100, 1000, made no different- nothing blew.

Re: Stellar Abilities
Did you change the chance of an event to 100% as well?
Also remember that it will do a event per turn and that might be a pop decrease or a something like that.
So you might not get a nova each turn no matter what!

Re: Stellar Abilities
This isn't an event, I'm using the stellar abilites file- the same one that defines the storms, black holes, etc.
