Fatherland game file
Any tools or ways of changing the fatherland game file?
The reason~~ I'm currently doing a game with my son(11y.o.)... he's struggling to survive. If I send him stuff he'll feel as tho I'm being too nice.
It would be nice to give him a boost so he can recover.

im not sure about your idea but you could always make some 'mistakes ie: bad scripts/not having any defenders/pd in provinces ect

Re: Fatherland game file
Technically, you should be able to modify the Fatherland file. In actual practice, it isn't going to be straightforward, since the Fatherland is not *intended* for modifications (quite understandably for MP games).
Besides making mistakes of your own, you could always set up a handicap for your nation (do not use all design points, use less than optimal taxes...), or you could add a few weaknesses to your nation through a mod.

Re: Fatherland game file
I'm not playing against him... the AI opponent is taking him down and I'm no where near him to take out the enemy. Sending gems or gold would only make him feel worse.
I guess no one has tried adjusting the game file. It's fine... other games he'll have better luck.

Re: Fatherland game file
I understood the situation as them playing against the AI, or even just independents.
I don't know anything about the fatherland. I am used to having setbacks, and even losing. Thankfully it's not that common any more.

Re: Fatherland game file
I've hacked it in limited ways. It's not too hard to change province features, give a commander items, or turn on spells, for example. It's been a while since I've looked at it, and the encoding isn't entirely straightforward.
Er, and I think the last time the subject came up here, one of the moderators warned folks about making it too easy to cheat. But if there's another way to get in touch with you...

Re: Fatherland game file
Oh, it's fairly simple to do if you're the host with the fatherland file; most items are in the order displayed (as with most programs), so, for example, if you wanted to edit the number of gems he has, you basically just search for the numbers of gems he has for several types in order (can't remember if it used two bytes or four per type....) - but there's catches; some things (like gems) are controlled by the turn file - so if you are editing the number of gems he has, you have to force him to miss a turn in order for him to get the gems.... which could be very very bad. Others are compared between the turn and the fatherland file, with the fatherland file as the master - if the turn file doesn't match, it's discarded, and the turn is lost.

Re: Fatherland game file
In this situation, it seems like it would be better to hack the fatherland file so the AI is diminished, rather than the player is improved. It would be more noticable if my gem income jumped way up on a turn than if the AI somehow lost commanders/research/gems.
