Question Possible full screen windows 7 capability

Don or Andy,
Any chance that either of you will find a work around to make windows 7 full screen capable? I've read in a past post that you or Andy stated that the game was NOT designed to be run full screen. I was able to do it in windows xp with no problems. I had to get a new cpu and had to go with the new OS. I love being able to play the game the aforementioned way. Not too mention it's easier on the eyes I'm sure most would agree. I just had to put that on my wish list. I'm a fan of this game appreciate the work you guys have put into it....

The game is not playable fullscreen under 7? Why? It is under Vista.

Moved to the main forum, as the original poster had it in the OOB forum.

There is plenty of help and discussion on the unsupported Vista and Windows 7 (which is just a new marketing name for Vista).

We cannot officially support an operating system that we do not own. Maybe if I get a new machine in a year or so, but XP is doing all that is required.

The psychedelic mode where windows messes with the 256 colour palette is already described in your game guide. Game Guide -> Tuning Your Machine -> Para on Full Screen mode. So it is a windows problem, and not anything to do with Vista/W7. (I sometimes rarely got it on Windows 98, reboot PC, problem sorted).

Try reading both games fora - e.g this post in WW2 http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?t=44044

Try setting the Vista/W7 compatibility mode for a 256 colour palette for the game - see your windows 7/vista help. Or simply reboot the PC a couple of times, and don't hog your memory with Microsoft Word etc.

The recommended solution for modern PCs is to use full-screen windowed mode, since windows (or anti-virus programmes like Avast) does not mess with the 256 colour game palette then. Plus you can see the windows task bar, and run any amount of programmes in the background without the memory usage triggering the 256 colour screen problems (lack of real memory also seems to be a problem triggering the psychedelic screen). And in windowed mode in full screen - pressing ALT+PRINT SCREEN gives you a screen dump in the normal Windows paste buffer too.

It will NOT display AT ALL full screen under win7. All I get is an error msg and win7 closes it.

EJ....... we have suggested you go an read the Vista threads...... have you ? What we're hearing from you is the same thing we heard from Vista owners when it first came out and there ARE workarounds posted. We know it works in both modes just fine right out of the box in XP. Both Andy and I have XP but Win 7 is a direct decendant of Vista not XP so go and read the Vista threads on both forums and try some of the suggestions made there

If I run my game in windowed or full screen mode at 1152x864 everything about the game in regards to text or Icon size are the same and I can run the game at even higher resolutions on my daughters machine but it has a bigger screen but again.... no difference in text or Icon size between full screen and windowed mode so I have no idea what you mean by full screen being easier on the eyes or why most would agree with that

Any chance of throwing a bone to the default screen sizes available for the free versions? I really don't know of many computers supporting 640 X 480 resolution anymore and 800 X 600 is pushing the bottom of the envelope nowadays. At least 1024 X 768.

I used to be able to run WinSPMBT and WinSPWW2 on my laptop just fine (Avast running and all). Since upgrading to Windows 7, nothing (unless of course I'd care to play in a 4 X 6 inch Windowed box (yes, I've tried all the suggestions on the Forum and more). I do have it on an older XP desktop, but this will hopefully be replaced in the near future. When that occurs, I suppose these will be regulated to the (virtual) shelf, along side my complete DOS SP1, SP2, and SP3 disks.

I know the simple answer is buy the CD's. Probably should have, a few years back when they were much less expensive, that's on me. But I suppose some folks newer to the series might pass up this gem, when they can't get the free version to run properly on their modern rigs.

I have one last trick I want to try. It's a third party solution that will run a program in a window, with a possibility of adjusting the size of the window. Here's the link if anyone else wants to give it a go http://www.filefront.com/13838785/D3DWindower-English/

Thanks for the labor of love guys.

EJ try my Windows 7 full screen/fuzzy palette color fix. Don, has graciously stickied at the top of the threads. This issue bugged me to no end, but no longer. Let me know if it works for you. Good luck.

MAke sure you have no media player open, no browser windows open, and no windows open fullstop.

Some times, for reasons I don't know, the mix up with the pallete happens if I have some youtube tabs open, or even a window (explorer) with many video files in it. After I close them, everything works.
This for Vista 64.
