Hmm, I rather like this.

Makes sat/plat/fighter group creation more interesting.

I suppose this works for fighters as well?
And I also suppose that adding the 'brain' units to the group Last will mean they will be taken out Last?

I think it used to be first in, Last destroyed, but has been randomized.

Logic says no, gameplay seems to suggest yes

The same also seems to apply to weapon platforms (I call them PDC's 'planetary defence centres)

Any ideas?

Actually, I think satellite group or weapon platforms does not need multiplex target system.
I am pretty sure I was able to direct the fire from satellites to several targets at the same turn. (use delect/deselct weapons). I also sure that on auto combat, AI sometimes do the same.

actually, you guys have answered the question beautifully

I use SJ's 'brainsat' approach and yes, when this gets destroyed, your beautful layered defence pattern can fall over quite awfully.

In response to Oleg, in strategic combat, I have not noticed my satellites using any multiplex abilities. I get really really narked off when they yak 50 CSM's at a humble light cruiser and let the other 6 get in scot free

Well, that's cause:
1) first one shoots.
2) the next one sees that the target isn't dead yet.
3) it shoots too
4) goto 2

Is that another area that did not move over from SEIII? It's been a little while, but ISTR that you could set the percentage of damage per round per target. Meaning if calculated 1000Kt damage to a ship, you could set the Stat combat to send 150% (1500Kt) damage to that ship, targeting others similarly up to the point of the Multiplex Tracking device.

Does that make sense?

That's not an option anymore, is it??

Yep. Same thing with ECM and Sensors. Even a Talisman! Plus, IIRC, the bonuses Last the entire combat, no matter what.

You just need one Master Fire Control sat, and a whole lot of armored weapon sats.
However, these require a lot of micromanagement, since losing the one "Brain" sat can cripple you whole defense for the next combat.
You'll need to have a boatload of brainsats ready to deploy as replacements.
