Went and saw Ladder 49 Friday night. It is a darn good movie. I liked it better than Backdraft, which was basically a murder mystery with firemen. Ladder 49 uses flashbacks to tell the story of Joaquin Pheonix's character over the past 10 years (ok, I know his real name is Leaf, but couldn't he have found a better first name to use besides Joaquin?). John Travolta has a much better role to act in, compared to what he did in Punisher. A great movie. I highly recommend it. I think Phoenix should be an Oscar nomination, but we'll see. There's still 2 more months of movies to go.

AVP - Alien Verses Predator

When I first saw this movie I utterly hated it. I mean I just fricken dispised it. Recently I learned that they are making a sequal to this movie. Aliens and Predators are at war and they bring the fight to a small town in the US and the citizans must fight them both to survive. Sound lame as hell to me, kinda like the abismal plot of Alien 3.

I like Alien. It hought it was a bold, dark, compelling movie that thankfully was skillfully given an exceptional sequal; Aliens.

Aliens was without a doubt one of the most impressive movies I have ever seen. It hold a place as one of my top five most favorite movies.

Alien 3 was just a major unfiltered disappointment on an epic scale of failure. My opinion of this movie and what it did to the Alien franchise became so low that they would have to work very hard indeed to dissapoint me again.

And then comes Alien 4. WTF was this movie about? Answer, put a bunch of semi-good actors on a space station and have them fight it out. Orginally this was going to be an AVP movie but they ditched the Predator parts and re-wrote the movie to be just an alien movie. BIG F'ing mistake. Had they kept the original script as an AVP script, then the movie might have been special.

AVP - As I said, I really hated this movie when it first came out. I have this rule, if I hate a movie I will watch again in a year or so. Well its been over two years and I finally decided to watch AVP again, the extended version.

I have to say that I was wrong about this movie. It was a very good movie and I don't recall why I hated it so. I found that the extended version made more sense than the theatrical version. I like the attention to detail that they had in the movie. The plot was only weak in a few areas, (Such as from the time of face hugger victim 1 to the first full grown alien attack was only about 20 minutes or two changes in the pyramid. Astect time every 10 nimutes.

The were more aliens than there were people, I think 12 aliens overall and only 9 victims.

I like the way they did many of the things in this movie. In retrospect I was very unfair to this movie and just wanted to set the record strait.

Behind Enemy Lines 2

Ok here was a movie that I just knew was going to be a bad movie. A real B movie of epic proprotions. I avoided renting it simply because I knew that it was just a B flick with bad actors and a ****ty plot.

Well I finally broke down and watch this movie and let me say this for it, it was one hell of a good movie. I was completely taken back by the qaulity of its production values, solidiness of its story and plot. I especially enjoyed all of the great attention to detail like the fog in the plane as the SEAL team was preparing to drop. That detail is often overlooked in B budge movies. But in this movie they had it.. very cool detail.

The plot is based around the "mysterious" real life unexplained explosion in North Korea.

The writer took that real life incident and made a movie around it. The Players were all named differantly, but you get the sense that they were strongly based off of the current administration. (See the movie and you'll understand.)

There were so many small things, from good dialog to very good dialog. I really enjoyed the North Korean General, the south Korean Ambassador, and US Admiral and General performances. The cast was a great ensamble group of vetetrin actors.

What was really a nice touch was that the movie didn't leave you hanging. It actually had a very good well thought out and conclusive ending. You would expect a movie like this to end with the rescue of the remaining SEAL members from North Korea, but it went far further in detail and for that I am very thankful.

If you haven't yet seen this movie, I would recommend it. It is in the rental stores now and is well worth the price.

I liked this movie so much I am going to buy the DVD.

I saw Bourne Supremacy

It was pretty good. Matt Damon does a great job playing Jason Bourne... His secret agent character is very impressive: he is very highly skilled and his every action is so perfect and efficient, and he knows exactly what to do at every moment - he's like a machine. He's obviously good at hand-to-hand combat but it was hard to see what's going on in the fight scenes, it was too fast and close-up. Anyway, not a bad movie.

Saw it when it first came out. It's not the best story ever made, but I wouldn't call it a bad one. May have to watch it a couple of times to get all of teh nuances of the story. As far as special effects, looks pretty darn good. Almost everything, including the "sets", are computer generated. This may be the way of the future, because it might be cheaper that way than to build huge expensive sets you'll only see a few minutes of in a film. The only thing I didn't like was Gwyneth Paltrow's acting. But I would highly recommend go see this movie before it comes out on dvd.

Has anyone seen Walking Tall yet? You know, the one with The Rock. I didn't really notice it the first time I saw it, but since buying the dvd Last week, I've seen it a couple of times (my 3 year old son chose this movie over Home on the Range). Anyway, for those who saw it, I have a question. How can the Rock go into the sheriff's office one in one scene and see a fully staffed office with both sheriff's personnel and civilian employees, and later on in the movie go in that same office after he fires the deputies, and there's no one around? He was the right to fire the deputies, but I can't believe in a job-strapped community, that all of the civilians would walk out. Even the Rock's character wouldn't have fired them. Just a curiosity I noticed and there's no explanation for it in the film.

I've seen Shark Tale twice now, once with my son and once with my nephew. It's a great movie. Even though it's made by Dreamworks, it's not quite on the par with Shrek, but it's still pretty good. I highly recommend you see it, especially if there's a young one in your family. And speaking of that, I know where I'll be next Friday night. that's when The Incredibles comes out. Looks like it will another great movie from Pixar.

Kingdom of Heaven

A fairly good movie, in my opinion. Though I am sure someone more knowledgeable about the crusades could point out several historical inaccuracies. It takes a while for the action to get started...in fact the first hour or so was quite slow. But after that (the other hour and a half) was pretty good.

For those of you who don't know, it's a movie set in the 12th century, I think the specific date was 1184 at the start of the movie. Basically a movie about the crusades, and they manage to weave in a lot about the hypocracy of Christians and Muslims, and the blind reverence towards a city (Jerusalem) that both faiths hold as sacred. Anyways, it was fairly entertaining.

The Big Lebowski

Just saw it on TV yesterday. They cut the crap out of it to edit for language and nudity... and it was still a scream!! I'm going to go out and rent it next weekend to see the "unadulterated" version.

Revenge of the Sith

I was truly blown away by this movie. After the bad taste left in my mouth by the previous two, I did not expect to see a film with this much serious business going on. Kudos to Lucas for finally putting substance before gimick. I was "very moved" at several points in the movie. Go see it.
