My ships won\'t unmothball! --They do now though.
As the topic states, my ships in a game won't unmothball. The game in question is the Invulnerable Challenge. I have more then enough minerals in my storage to unmothball the ships, and I have more then enough surplus of minerals per turn to unmothball them. But they won't unmothball... I have 2 ships at a planet that won't do it and a small fleet at another that won't. IT worked fine earlier in the game but it doesn't seem to want to unmothball them now. What's up with that?

I believe that you can mothball without a spaceyard, but need one present to UNmothball ships. Maybe it's that?

Nope, that's not it. You can't mothball without a spaceyard or unmothball either, BTW.
But my ships are above planets with space yards present. That's what makes this so confusing.

Did you look at the orders list?
Perhaps you don't have enough Organics and Radioactives.
(I'm in the Invul Challenge too, and the lack of radioactives is litterally killing me. )

I have plenty of resources. Minerals are my shortest so far. I lose around 40K to 100K minerals per turn. I gain 829K in organics and 441K in rads per turn. I've tried unmothballing for the past 10 turns or so now and it won't do it at all; for any ship. This is really strange indeed.
Oh, and I did look at the orders list to confirm that it was ordered to unmothball. It was indeed.

Re: My ships won\'t unmothball! --They do now though.
I think I may have figured it out. If it is indeed what I think it is then it should be added to the FAQ and reported to MM.
Ok, here is the situation: I am about to take my large fleet (500 ships or so) into the Shark space; so I need to unmothball my warp point opener/closer to do so. I go and try but it won't happen as I have already explained. For the past 20 turns or so I've been using a Resource Converter to make up for my loss in minerals and keep my empire running smoothly. So after all this unmothball mess I decide I'll just refit my Nebula destroyer into a Warp point opener/closer. But when I go and try to do so it tells me I do not have enough resources to do this. Even though I have close to a million of each resource in storage. So I start thinking that maybe if I shut off my auto repeat of the resource converter to see what happens. So I do so and boom, my unmothballing now works. If I am not mistaken this is probably a bug of some sort that no one has ever seen before. Strange, eh?

Re: My ships won\'t unmothball! --They do now though.
Could you define the bug a little better?
From what I have read, you had enough resources in storage to cover the unmothball, but did you have enough to cover ALL actions that come out before income is added - like retrofits? Maybe retrofits happen before unmothballing and those were lowering the stored resources to the point where the unmothball failed.
Second, you mentioned that the problem seemed to go away when you took the planet with the resource converter off "repeat orders". Are you sure this was the problem? and is the amount of resources converted per turn relevant? Because what if the resources needed for the unmothball were greater than the amount in storage (before resource conVersion). The unmothball would fail if it occurred before the resource conVersion.
Please add a little more detail to make sure we nail down the exact problem and I'll add it to the FAQ on the next update.
edit: I *think* ship maintenance comes out before unmothballing. Could that have created the problem?
edit2: I had a similar problem with my Resource Converter planet on "repeat orders". The problem was that I kept adding in orders to do resource conVersions such that the game was executing multiple resource conVersions every turn (when I thought I had only ordered one conVersion) which was completely draining my storage of organics.
Thanks,
Slick.

Re: My ships won\'t unmothball! --They do now though.
Heh ya,
I am playing challenge as well (evil nasty sharks....) and similar thing happened but with upgrading (the upgrade had less than 50% difference - just a tweak to design). I just assumed it was user error and tried again and again. Eventually it worked. I was also using a RC and low on resources. Is the order of unmothballing and resource converting known? I was sure I had enough mins for the retrofit each time but it kept not doing it.
