Sony's format was Betamax (not VHS). Most everyone else was VHS. Beta, as it became to be called, was generally superior.

Wups, Slynky you are absolutely correct. Sony built Betamax while JVC built VHS.

Just ran a few searches, and I think it was this thread that gave me the d�j� vu. It appears that they're different articles.
