Re: Ummm... No drones???
Mmm, not sure what you mean... There are missile weapons in SE IV which track their targets; the generic term used is seeker and they seem to first appear in the form of Capital Ship Missile. These are similar to both the missiles of Starfire (one of my favorite games, which the SE series seems lovingly based on) complete with point defense to shoot them down. The way that seekers behave is quite similar to the drones from Star Fleet Battles. Is this what you sought (pun semi-intended )?

Re: Ummm... No drones???
There were plans for drones but so far they are not in the game. I have seen comments that they are being worked on. Hopefully they will be included in a patch when they are done.

Drones here will be bigger than a missle but smaller than ship. As I understand it it will be an AI driven thing. Very complex to code right.

Re: Ummm... No drones???
Why would SEIV need drones? You can already replace pilots and crews with computers, if you wish. If all you want is decoy missles, you could probably just add your own to the components table with the same tech requirements as Missle I. Have them do 5 damage if they actually manage to collide. Make them cheaper than missles, then you could use them to try to confuse the point defenses of your enemy. I'm not sure if the targeting system is smart enough to shoot at missles in damage order. If its, you may have to give them equivalent damage numbers and give them a very bad to hit modifier.

Re: Ummm... No drones???
Drones also allow things like SBMHAWK pods.. missile holding, one-shot pods that can make warp point trasfers to shoot up the defenders before the actually force arrives.
They are basiclly expendable ships, that can be given targets, either sectors, ships, or what have you, then go off on their merry way until they complete their objective or run out fuel.. then they self-destruct.

Re: Ummm... No drones???
Drones would be a nice option to have. But as of right now they're not in the game yet.

The two will hover, spinning inches above the ground. With a giant buttered cat array, a high-speed monorail could easily link New York with Chicago.
