Question about SE IV Gold?
Didn't see a forum for SE IV Gold...did I miss it or can I leave a query here?
Question: On setup screen for Gold, one of the computer player options has to do with the difficulty level. They are easy, normal, hard (I'm doing this from memory, so maybe that's not the exact words, but I know they're close). Does "easy" mean the AI has it easy (works at full capacity), or does it mean the human player has it easy (the AI is handicapped)? This option is not mentioned at all in the manual, as far as I can see.
Thanks!

right here. it's just under space empires 4. it does look a bit confusing, now that i think about it.
easy and up give construction bonuses to ai production and construction something like x2 x3 and x5. this is needed because the ai is stupid.

Re: Question about SE IV Gold?
Gold does not have a separate forum from non-Gold, as Gold is essentially the next patch from the Last non-Gold Version (with nice extras on the CD).

Re: Question about SE IV Gold?
OK, thanks BOOM and Fyron. Also found something on this (I think) on another SE IV forum.
Fyron, if Gold is as you say, just a patch (and I believe you, since I have both the original IV and Gold), why did I have to buy the game at full price? I asked about this before purchasing, and whoever replied said I could not treat it as a patch, I had to buy Gold because it's essentially a new game. Now I've got 'em both and I don't believe it's anything but a super-size patch, so I feel cheated. Nothing you or I can do about that, but I think I'll be very careful about buying anything else "new" from Shrapnel.

Re: Question about SE IV Gold?
It's more than a "patch". There were a ton of new features, requested by fans, and tweaks and fixes in the game. SE:IV, as a stand alone product, works fine without Gold. What we included in Gold is way ahead of what many publishers release in a "Gold" Version.

Re: Question about SE IV Gold?
I just meant that technically Gold could have been applied as a patch. It is essentially the exact same game, just with more patch feature upgrades to the executable and data files. However, the Gold CD has a lot of extra features on it that make it more than a patch. Tons of custom ship sets, mods, modding tools, etc. are included on the CD. Too bad Gold didn't do the other major aspect of a Gold Version by having balance fixes...
