How the Devil ...?
Just got done losing a battle in which the enemey forces had routed long ago, and the only enemy (Vanheim) unit left was an ice devil, which somehow ... healing during the battle.
I went through the battle replay several times; the only spell the devil cast was Quickness; its magic items consisted of Winged Shoes and an Amulet of Antimagic, with the default(?) Hell Sword. Looking at the hell sword, there's no mention of life stealing.
So - any idea how the devil the devil was going from 8 HPs in one turn, to 30 the next, to 54? Near as I can tell, I had the battle one, save for this inexplicable healing, given the devil didn't seem to have regeneration, life stealing, or any other units that might have been healing him. Only thing I can think of is that the Hell Sword does have lifestealing abilities that aren't mentioned?

Try reading the description of the Hell Sword again, will you

A sword infused with the power of blood sacrifice, it will drain the life force of anyone hit and give it to its wielder. The sword also grants its wielder partial protection from fire and the ability to go berserk.

I would say that constitutes mention of life stealing.

And the berserking was quite useful in this case too

Ah, I see Gaap beat the crap out of you. Is this the game I think you're talking about?
You kinda have to look at the hell sword item in the forge menu in order to see this: The Hell Sword as a default piece of equipment doesn't let you read the loadout, so you can't see it mention lifestealing.

Heh. I would have gone looking in the book, if only I had thought it was a magic item. Because it's innate to the ice devil, it doesn't show as an equipped magic item, and I figured it was "just" a default critter weapon/attack that happened to be considered "magic" (as that was all that was listed when I examined the sword in game) - I figured it'd show life-stealing as an attribute there.
Plus my cat was sleeping on top of the Dom2 manual and I didn't want to wake him up. Honest!

Happens to the best of us.
Let none doubt, however, that an Ice Devil wielding a Hell Sword is an unholy combination.

Damn, I wanted the devil with the Hell Sword. I get dumb ones like Mr. Icicle Fist.
