So scrap them for free minerals and rebuild?
Scrapping is supposed to give no resources, according to Geo among others: the resources do appear, but they are said to disappear when the turn runs (simultaneous games, 1.91).

However, abandoning the planet should still allow you to reclaim those free minerals: you should therefore send that population into the void if you want those minerals. Alternatively, just glass'em for being so silly.

It all depends. Imagine a small planet with about 1% for organics but covered in farms that the AI has built for some reason.

I'd glass that planet, mainly on the principle that I don't want people that stupid in my empire
a race so far from perfection is no worth to be assimilated.

Whatever that thing was the Shivans got one less of them now - S.O.C. Freespace 2

We're the borg, lower your shields and surrender your ships, we will add your technological and biological distintiveness to our own your race will adapt to serve us, resistant is futile.

Anyone know how much damage it takes to destroy a facility?

I sometimes use a race in SP that has ALL extra tech area bonuses , but which accordingly has massive deficits in race characteristics. When you capture a race, in SEIV I do not believe you get the advantages of it - i.e. you cannot build Talismans if you capture a Religious race. And since it is weak anyway, I would simply annihilate it should I come across it myself.

(Or exploit them - trade with them. If they've got a trade deficit and you've got a trade bonus, suck all of their resources out of them with a Trade treaty and then subjugate/conquer them, just for the fun of it.)

In the demo troops ARE weak. In the full version, you can build much larger troops with much stronger weapons. Then it's worthwhile. The overall opinion on this forum is that capturing is FAR more effective than glassing the planet. I'd say try it once, even if only in the simulator. Troops are simply better than planetary napalm (unless you mod the napalm bombs to do 1 damage).

Mine all WPs, especially the unstable ones as - especially in MP games - that was where I'd expect an attack to come from. Nobody would suspect an assault fleet entering your home system trhough a damaging WP, so almost nobody creates adequate - or even ANY - defense arount them... so I'd launch an attack from there. Post guard stations around the stable WPs. If there are only useless systems nearby, and you've got high-lev Stellar Manip tech, make them into black holes and post guard mines AND sats AND stations on the WPs leading there.

Also, another tactic could be:
Take out all WPs to your system except one, then build a System Stellar Manip Shield to prevent further WPs being opened. Make sure the ONLY entrance to your system leads to a black hole and manipulate the WPs and systems according to approximately this layout to assure maximum safety.
