Default Reviews of Gold?

Hey guys... I'm a old time SEIV fan. I haven't played in awhile.

So how much better is gold?

Is the mulitplayer working good? Is anyone doing it? Realtime games?

Thanks,

Ken

Does anyone have gold yet? Don't ask me to d/l the demo... I want your opinions.

and I don't mean realtime, but could a group play a significant portion of a game in one sitting mulitplayer?

Thanks,

Ken

Unfortunately, or maybe 'fortunately', I never played the original SE4, so my experience thus far with Gold has been awesome!

I haven't tried TCP/IP with anyone yet, and to be honest, though I myself wouldn't mind getting a TCP/IP game going, its hard to find people to play TBS games this way.

But I can tell you that the extras included with on the CD is really nice! Not only are there mods and shipsets, there are also some really useful utilities and tutorials. The manual is well done, but veteran players might find it less than necessary.

Malfador and Shrapnel put the industry leaders to shame with this production!

Depends on what you mean by significant. Even singleplayer, midgame turns can take quite a while.

TCP/IP is best for the first turns, and you should be able to crank out the first 20 turns in one sitting. After that, you can switch over to PBW as the turns get longer, and your player's schedules diverge.

I think Gold is a large and very nice step forward. There are heaps of fixes, improvements, new features and adjustments. The new combat sounds are a huge improvement. The AI is more respectable. Mod support is nicely improved in a number of ways, especially with the work that's still being added (really spiffy AI tweaking stuff is in the Version now in beta). Not to mention all of the nifty mods included for it. I'd definitely recommend Gold.
