Mages are weaker and magic gems are less plentiful. The average soldier has better gear and a higher resource cost. That's the general rule.
I just took a look at Patala and other than the decrease in magic gems this doesn't really seem to hold true for them. Their cap only Nagarishi looks like he could hold his own with any EA mage (although the lack of a boot slot on an earth mage must be annoying) and their non-capital troops look almost exactly the same as EA and MA.
I think Patala is generally considered to be one of the weaker nations, so keep that in mind.

Well, it's less about summons than other ages because of the relative lack of gems. Troop lives are still relatively expendable though.
WoG, by the way, is a 12 player map and thus no use to us.
Faerun 466 is big enough to not have worries over start placements, but probably has a bit too much water.

also, its [faerun] confusing as hell (thats allowed isn't it?) to differentiate between the land and the sea. I personally would choose a less aesthetically pleasing map thats easy to read than one thats detailed but confusing. I would say use something made for dominions. there was a 1000 or so province map, but that may be a tad extreme.
From looking at them, theres going to be a lot of monkeys runnin around everywhere. I think I'm looking at using numbers to drown the enemy in a swarming mass of feces and furry little bodies.
And serpant creatures . . .?

I'd use the elephants to expand against indies at the very least, they're pretty great for that. From what I've heard the serpent creatures (Naga) aren't very good and looking at them I'm inclined to agree. They're quite expensive but and also slow, use tiny shields and have less hp then you'd think something that pricy would.
Just looking at the nagarishi makes me think you could make a pretty cool linebacker communion.
Have the nagarishi cast:
communion master, summon earthpower, invulnerability, quickness, whatever
then have a yogi cast:
communion master, body ethereal, personal luck, resist magic, whatever
have someone bless the communion (since all your mages are sacred, I'd reccomend a minor earth bless at the very least) and have a bunch of yogis armed with frost brands cast communion slave and then attack.
Later on you can have a Kinnara add:
communion master, mistform, mirror image, flight, air shield
I have no idea how practical this would be but it's fun to think about.

Re: Pyrothere - LA slowpace game: 18 signed up
see, i'm at the point where i know how to do normal shhhhhtuff and thats all. I have sought after the effect of communion slave/master spells. does it say it on there? i thought i checked, but i didn't see it. all i know is how its done. WHAT THE HELL DOES IT DO!
I hope you didn't inconvience yourself getting all of that for me. like, hopefully you didn't look all that up from the time i posted that post you quoted from until now. I'd feel like an a**hole for switching. I'm just more familiar with c'tis. although, I get the feeling its the same sort of idea in terms of troops, but with greater variation and undead and . . . well, not all that similiar. thank you though. I will most likely still use that combination or some variation of it, seeing as I have none of my own.

Haha, don't worry about it. I've played Bandar Log single player so I'm familiar with their mages. And like I said I don't know if using that strategy would actually be a good idea.
The way communions work is that you have masters and slaves. One joins the communion by casting the astral 1/thaum 1 spell communion master or sommunion slave. Putting more slaves in the communion boosts the masters' magic skill in all paths as follows
+1 at 2 slaves
+2 at 4 slaves
+3 at 8 slaves
+4 at 16 slaves
and so on.
In addition, when the communion master casts a spell the fatigue generated from the spell is spread between all the members of the communion. Finally, any buffs applied to the masters are applied to all of the slaves.
There's a (long) guide here: http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?t=37499

Late age is about BLOOD!!!!
Well sorta, but perhaps you catch my drift
Also remember the undead usually are not put off by feces, though they may harbor some resentment of the furry bodies flinging it.

Re: Pyrothere - LA slowpace game: 13 signed up so far, and room for more
as far as I see, which isn't far, i'll have my monkeys eat sharp objects so that their feces will have some mortal qualities to it. hopefully they should adapt enough to deal with the digestive needs of this. or have them ingest massive amounts of mortar and stone and have them . . . lets just say we'd have a lot of bricks.
also, oeridia was the map I was thinking of. it has 1055 land, 170 water. I think thats a bit too much. but i do like the idea of caves. haven't tried those out yet.
