Re: Noob LA Game: Cataclysm - And Begin!
Well, considering the discussion about "kingmaking", I wanted to ask here on how you feel about this.
I wasn't really intending to really stick it out in the long run, just trying to be a gameshaping power and then give the game up for "thematic" reasons (like Zukkekon doesn't care for belief of feeble mindless mortals and will leave the despoiled rest of this world to whoever has proven worthy and set out for the stars with his select followers with the items he has acquired).
R'lyeh is stronger than it's province count suggests. I have no idea if I could win in the end, if everyone played perfectly most likely not, but my actions will certainly have a big impact on who survives.
Also I think I have become to experienced for this game. When I joined it I had two real games finished, and one I practically gave up at turn 10. However now it's more like 5, and I don't really feel unsure about the battles anymore. I guess the battle for Mictlan is far from finished and the next turns might prove me terribly wrong, though the last turns have gone too smoothly for my liking.
That said I have several options.
I can play on like I planned or instead of giving up hand it to a sub.
I can try to line up a sub and let him take over the nation.
I could also play on and hand my nation over to someone who's been eliminated, when I go out.
I apologize to any player who feels hurt (though I wouldn't have played the turns differently, especially I had to take action against Mictlan if I was looking to stay in the game longer, with all that "accidentally" clashing of SCs and wishing for artifacts. No hard feeling from my side, it was all good in game action and I was feeling really cornered, hope you agree).

Honestly Illuminated One, i feel like i am in a very similar boat, i wouldn't consider myself a noob anymore, but i don't think any of the players here really are anymore. you are in a very powerful position, but its not like it was unfairly won. stick it out, and lets just see how it goes.

Re: Noob LA Game: Cataclysm - And Begin!
I really didn't consider myself a "noob" going into this game. I certainly wasn't a vet by any means but I understood the basics of what to aim for as far as early/mid/late game as well as some more advanced tricks as Lama has seen. Anyhow, I still learned a lot in this game, as I'm sure we all have and I think that not one of us who has made it this far in the game could be reasonably considered a noob at this point.
What it comes down to Ill, is if you're bored with the game or don't think you've a reasonable chance of winning, then do something to make it interesting for you again. Themactically, have your pretender go nuts and set yourself up with crazy goals and grand, over-the-top plans of attack. Use this game to experiment without having to worry about winning or not, it'll give us all something unexpected to deal with.

Re: Noob LA Game: Cataclysm - And Begin!
Well, it's not that the grand picture is not very interesting in this game, it's very tense. I don't think I don't have a reasonable chance of winning, might be might be not, although I will have some catching up to do.
It's that I'm really annoyed of how much "menial work" I have to do if I want to take the chance. Really if 10% of the game is decision making and the rest is just making clams, watching over provinces, checking that the scripts/equipment I made are equal to those I envisioned...
Well, enough whining, I guess I can indeed do some crazy stuff and suicide over it, but that wouldn't be to far from what I originally envisioned.

Yeah this game has convinced me that gem gens ruin games. I will be playing only non gem-gen games in the future, the micro is just too much.

Well, as the never dying advocate of gem gens I have to say that they are really not a micro problem for me - only that I'm forced to make as many as I can sucks hard.
The one battle against your archdevil took me 5 times as long to execute as all my clam stuff while the plan was laid out in 5 minutes.
And still I forget to not put my best caster into a spot where he is killed by friendly fire.

Well, since there are so many players who don't like when someone throws the towel I'll try to line up a sub.
