Bid Game - Build the position you want (was Milk II)
Game Settings:
Map: Glory MP
Research: Difficult
Rename: On
Mods: Banners, CBM1.5, Alternate (see below)
VP: 1/2 caps +1 held 3 turns.
Naps: Nonbinding
Delays: Liberal on request.
Era: Early
Turns: 48 first, 27 through 20, 51 thereafter.
Players: 14 Land, 2 water.
Special rules:
1. Order +/- 6%. Resources +/- 5%.
2. Each player will be granted 100 points, on top of the usual 400. Players will use these points to bid on their nation, starting locations, to improve these starting locations, and for pretender design.
As all of these changes will have to be done by hand, I will admin, but not play.
Starting locations will *not* be limited to single provinces. There will be multi-province starting locations to bid on.
3. Bidding will continue until all players are satisfied, or there are 24 hours with no further bids.
4. Improvements:
Players with multiple provinces can start with additional castles, temples, and labs.
Castles will cost 35 pts.
Temples will cost 10
labs will cost 5.
All castles will start with usual starting troop strength
Starting troops and commanders can also be bought for 10 points.
Left over points (up to 13) can be spent either 1 pt for 10 gold, or 1 pt per gem. PD can also be purchase (with no limit) 1pt for 1 pt.
Additional territories can be bid on; with a minimum cost of 10 pts and a minimum incremental bid of 5 pts.
5. There will be three special sites. These sites may be up to uncommon in rarity. These will also be bid on. Which sites will be a function of what players desire. Any sites awarded by bid will be *publicly* known.
6. After bidding on nation, location, and improvements, points remaining will be added/debited to ones pretender design.
7. Noobs may be allowed a handicap at moderator discretion. Please advise if you are new to dominions (fewer than 5 mp games). Handicaps will be 35 pts; the presence of the handicap will be announced prior to game start, but after bids. (and its presence or lack will not be awarded until after bidding is concluded).
8. There are 12 starting locations. More than 12 players may bid on them, in which case the 12 players bidding the most for their starting locations, will play.
8.b Thanks AoE for a great idea original milkshake!
8.c Sorry I suck on graphics editing. If you squint you should be able to make out the positions A-P. Two of the nations have around 6 territories, and 5 others have 2-5.
8d. If you bid more than 100 points for your position, you must leave points spent on your pretender. So for example, suppose you bid 183 points for mictlan, with various improvements, in position G. This would leave you 317 points for Pretender creation.
Pretenders will be sent to me for verification (hence why I'm not playing = )
9. Please keep bids in the following format:
Start Location: pts
or
Nation: pts.
or
Territory: pts
or
Improvements: pts
This is interesting purely for the process! So one can bid with more than 100 points, thus reducing pretender design below 400 points?
How does one actually create a pretender with other than 400 points, presumably there is a mod for it, or we submit our design to you?
Not sure exactly what you are saying with 1. Is this a tweak of the Order and Production scales?
My understanding is that you will be selecting the 3 special sites prior to bidding?
Note I think some clarification on the mulligan system is needed based on learnings from Milkshake, specifically these two issues:
1. Can mulligans be traded?
2. Can 2 mulligans be used consecutively such that a game goes back 2 turns?
Suggestion – players are awarded a bonus mulligan per nation kill.
I'm a bit scared of your example Chris, Mictlan starting with an extra 2 castles and templea would be frightening. It is hard to think of anything else that would compare. I agree with the Illuminate One that those costs probably need revision - castles in particular due to the huge time saving.
I don't suppose equipment is an option, costed at research_level*gem cost, with no artifacts? That could make for some interesting awake pretenders presumably.
A., I'm hoping to work on the map file tonight...
B. No mulligans, even though I like em
C. If a pretender is over 400 - send me a pm with the design and I'll mod it.
D. yes, the settings for resources and order are tweaked.
E. There will be 3 special sites available: Upto uncommon in rarity. Players may discuss nominate which ones they want in the game. After they are chosen, players will bid for these sites. So, yes, you can have cool special sites. No, I think all the conjuration 50 sites are Rare. And just remember, even though it may be in the game doesn't mean that *you* will win the bidding = ).
Make sure if you are bidding that your nation has multiple provinces, or does not use all 4 sites for its national setup.
F. Dragar, the settings for mictlan were just an example. We are relying on people having a sense of the strengths of the nations, and having to bid higher on stronger nations.
If mictlan is going for too few points, hopefully others will bid it up!
Well, I see one problem with designing the pretenders via mod, if two people have the same chassis, but different paths -> incompability.
And sorry, but I have no idea what uncommon sites are, could you or anyone maybe give a list?
If I bid on a nation do I have the chance to change my mind and bid on another?
If (and only if) so I'll start without much thinking: Formoria, 5 pts.
Hey illuminated:
Absolutely: Everyone keeps bidding until everyone is satisfied.
You only pay for bids you win. So for example you can bid Formoria for 5. If you see your neighbor is going to be Mictlan which you hate - you can either bid a different starting location, or bid for mictlan.
As for the uncommon sites - grab edi's db (from the strategy thread) it lists all the units, all the sites.
