Questions 2 of 5
Hello everyone!
Thank you in advance for your patience.
I have five main questions to start me off in the fabulous and confusing world of Dominions 3. I will only ask 2 here, since these are the easiest to formulate -- need more time and research for the others!
1. In the battle view, I cannot seem to move the camera like it says in the manual. Page Up and Page Down have no effect whatsoever. If it is worth anything, I think the game runs great and I have no other issues, I have the latest patch (3.23b), and play on a Vista laptop, where the numpad arrows work fine (and it seems to make no difference if I have numlock on or off, I tried both).
2. I like the manual. Please don't get me wrong. I learned a LOT I would have had to spend months on otherwise. But it seems the one very single thing I most want isn't in there: a nice readable overview list of all the nations, in particular with their mages and their magical stuff, as well as a list of the summonable commanders. I had done a lot of looking around and found this amazing thing here:
http://www.freewebs.com/dominions2/SCQRv10.pdf
but that is for Dom2. Ouch!
There are obviously lots of great .xl spreadsheets, but nothing so readable as that .pdf for Dom2 that I could find. Could someone point me perhaps to a different location?
Thank you very much in advance and hope to see you soon

Re: Questions 2 of 5
1) In the battle view, the numpad arrows will move the camera forward and backward. Pg Up and Pg Down move the camera up and down. If you move up, it will go way up. There were some commands that allowed you to rotate the camera in some ways, but I don't remember what they are.
2) The Dominions 2 references are missing well over 1000 units. The most comprehensive reference at this time is the Dom3 DB (link in my sig and in the FAQ), but it does not have exactly what you're looking for. It does have army lists for nations, but those lists do not have summoned commanders (even the national spells) and they do not have the stats on the same page. Sunray's site has some sort of quickref spreadsheet with the nations, but I don't remember how current it is wrt the latest patch.
The Dom3 DB has all the units on the main page, so you can look each one up separately, but that's a tad unwieldy. It's the best I've been able to do with the resources I have. I could have done more, I suppose, but I ran out of the most crucial resource, time, given all the other things I've got going.
Nobody has done a Quickref in the style of the Dom2 QR guides for Dom3, though the path booster and item forging references are the closest thing and they are invaluable.

Re: Questions 2 of 5
'F' is free-view in the battle screen. It allows rotation of the battlefield using the Home/End keys in the Home/End/PgUp/PgDn block, and 7/9 on the Num Pad. It also removes restrictions on lateral movement. There have been reports of crashing to the desktop when using free-view, but I've never managed to make that happen.

Re: Questions 2 of 5
Thank you very much for yours replies. May I follow up please?
- I was trying to say: When I hit "page up" or "page down", nothing happens, it has no effect, despite what is written in the manual and what Edi says. The arrow keys work, but not getting closer or further away via page up and page down.
- When I hit "f" in battle view, it makes it fast forward, not free view or rotation?
- Edi, I seem to not see your sig. Can you post the link separately?
What I am looking for is perhaps a number of things:
1. A list of what each nation can get "out of the box" in a way I can read it. I took a look at that Dom3 database spreadsheet, and it seemed almost liek greek to me. So far, my "workaround" is to creat pretenders for each nation and each age, and create games with each of these nations, so I can just hit "r" for recruit and see what national mages they have.
2. A list of all summonable commanders, or even only a list of all summonable commanders with magic abilities.
Maybe I didnt see what you did, but I certainly in no way want to suggest that you should do anything else with your valuabel time!
Thank you so much!

Re: Questions 2 of 5
You need to hit 'F', not 'f', for free-view.
Are you hitting PgUp/PgDown on the numeric pad? Those are the wrong ones. You need to hit the PgUp/PgDown in the Home/End/Del/PgUp/PgDown/Insert block of 6 keys.

Re: Questions 2 of 5
Oh sorry thank you!
I only have a laptop, I do not know if I have other pageup/pagedown keys, I will check, but I think I only have those. The arrow keys on the "numeric pad" part work in the battle-view however.

Re: Questions 2 of 5
Using 'w' to toggle the battlefield between the "wallpaper" and "wireframe" modes helps a lot if the response to the camera controls is sluggish.
