Tank Battle with enemy Artillery Problem
Hi again!
I did another small English AAR and had a lot of fun but encountered something strange...
The battle started with smoke from my guns and there was a brief message regarding some counter-battery-fire with the enemy.
After that, the enemy artillery was completely silent...no fire for 7 turns, then the game ended.
I checked the enemy troops and saw that their artillery was not destroyed but Ready.
What does the red color in this case mean?
Sorry if this is a pretty stupid question...
Thanks,
KAreil

Re: Tank Battle with enemy Artillery Problem
If it was off-board arty, it is always in red, regardless of status.

Yes, it was off-board-arty, thanks for the info.
Any idea why the AI didn't use it?

Re: Tank Battle with enemy Artillery Problem
I dont know. Maybe it didnt see any good targets for the caliber it had (like a big blob of infantry and/or armor).

Maybe he didn't see my tanks...but they were shooting him all the time...AI never thought of using smoke for cover or just a barrage for suppressing me...

Re: Tank Battle with enemy Artillery Problem
The fact the game ended in 7 turns is significant but without a save game there is no way to tell but a battle with that much enemy artillery should not have ended in 7 turns unless it was specifically set up that way or all the V hexes and all most enemy units on map were either destroyed or routed

The enemy took really heavy casualties...
I've got a savegame from turn 4, can I upload it here at the forum?

Re: Tank Battle with enemy Artillery Problem
It looks like the AI got hammered in counter battery fire.
With that much given AI offboard arty, can i suppose you had much more?
In which case maybe you got lucky and silenced them all(at least temporaly) and was able to KO enough units to end the game.

Re: Tank Battle with enemy Artillery Problem
I had only 2 batteries of 155mm-guns...
I don't think the counter battery fire was that effective...the screenshot taken at the end of the battle showed all the enemy batteries as "Ready"...

And as said - if the game ended so early (only 7 turns) for whatever reason, then it may not have had time to plot these as yet. Or, it had plotted them and they were waiting to arrive but the delay was beyond the 7 turns of the short little scrap. The arty plot screen is what tells you if they are so - not the roster.
