Default Body Armor for Infantry?

I've been playing around with the units trying to apply some sort of body armor for infantry.

Unfortunately, despite the fact that the game does let me add armor values to infantry it doesn't seem to make a difference in game.

(I went crazy and game infantry the armor values of a tank, and yet they still take casualties from simple rifles)

Is there something Im missing here, or is it just hard wired that infantry cant wear Kevlar or anything?

Thanks

I'm pretty sure the coding for infantry units won't do much to help you there. The only thing I can suggest is increasing the toughness of Infantry for one side (or both) in the preferences. At max values, that makes it pretty darn hard to kill infantry with small arms.

The armour values will only work for vehicles.

The only way to simulate this is to adjust the "toughness" variable in the game preferences screen.
However in game terms body armour has no effect - whilst your flack vest may save your life you are still likely to be incapable of combat! The game doesn't differentiate between dead, badly wounded, caring for a hurt mate or cowering at the bottom of a shell hole - a "casualty" is incapable of fighting effectively.

As stated, in the game "armor" is not even remotely intended to simulate infantry body armor. Small amounts of armor (1-3) really has zero effect on the damage a unit sustains and really only effects what type of ammo the game code fires at it, HE or AP.

If your infantry seems to fragile adjust the "toughness" as scorpio_rocks said. For my part I usually set it to 150% for a side where body armor is standard issue.

I once saw vid or was it mythbusters?,
anyway a kevlar vest was put on ballistic jell torso and even tho it stopped the bullet, the shockwave it made would've clearly made one uneffective for some time.
The game does not differiant from wounded and kills, all count as casualties and out for the battle.
Body armor only helps keep one from dying, not gain super human power.
