Research repeat
If I get 100 000 research points per turn, research an area wich costs 5000pts and set it on repeat, will I research severel levels in one turn or will I loose 95000pts?

Re: Research repeat
You lose any excess. I usually use repeat research to build up low-cost techs while still getting progress on my high-cost ones. I.e., Energy Pulse Weapons 1 and Ice Colonization, next turn move Energy Pulse Weapons 2 to front and Ice Colonization, etc. That way, I'm getting other techs while waiting on my big ones.

Re: Research repeat
This very simple 'technique' is one of the things the AI cannot do and so is left at a huge disadvantage.

Re: Research repeat
I think it's that the default AI's just don't always queue more than one tech at a time, although it isn't difficult to mod the AI to avoid wasting points. Just make sure it never has an "importance" over 50 for any tech, and it will always have at least two techs queued at once, it seems to me.
You can't get it to do several levels of an easy tech quickly with slow progress on a hard tech, but you can get it to mix and cycle easy and moderate (and hard) techs so that it doesn't waste any points.

Re: Research repeat
what good is the "repeat project" button for then, the res pts are wasted anyway.

Re: Research repeat
It's intended for use with multiple techs, not just one. When you finish the first tech, it's moved back to the end of the queue to wait.

Well, if you knew you were going to keep researching a couple techs for a while you could queue them up and hit repeat and when one is done it would get put to the back of the line automatically. It's convienent for PBW games if you are going to miss a few turns. Although the AI would attempt to research stuff for you, it might not be what you would want to research.

That's what I was referring to. It can't "rotate" research projects up when they are low cost and get faster progress. Keeping more than one project in the queue is no problem. Recognizing that you can get faster benefits by re-arranging the queue is the problem.
