Its a way of having a scenario with stuff dead and damaged already, forces already in contact (and some of your stuff spotted already etc) some retreaters on both sides and so on.

It only works in a generated battle (not PBEM, campaigns etc) so you cannot save off a scenario to cheat an opponent, or to cheat yourself (other than a singleton battle generator scenario).

(Reminder to self - must check if it works playing a scenario as well. Not sure if that should be disallowed - it may be handy for scenario testers to be able to save off a snapshot, to see what the OPFOR is currently doing, and if a player does so - he is only cheating himself.)

The scenario save resets the clock to the initial turn. It can of course be loaded into the scenario editor to play with as well.

Just checked - it allows saving as a scenario in an ongoing scenario. Will leave that in as a feature, A scenario designer may want to set up a situation, then play it a couple of turns till the desired point, then save off as the release article. or he may want to save snapshots and load those into the scenario editor to see what the opfor is doing, if he is playing the human side rather than playing it out AI v AI in testing.

I understand that new button is not for Campaigns. But I'm wondering if the original functionality (manual) will still be there for the saved-Campaign-session (which is then turned Scenario, edited, and put back as saved game) to be able to continue the campaign once the session finished at the last turn.

This is a very important mechanism to simulate extended combat Campaign with abstracted operational-strategic factors as I mentioned in posts 2, 3, & 5 above.

Not a fraction of a second did I think about this for cheating. What's the fun of that? This is a realistic game and that's what makes us play it. Cheating, might as well play arcade FPS shooters instead of this game.
