Unit and terrain data not displaying under mouse

I have the free version 17 of winSPWW2, running on Windows 11 Pro. The game functions very well except that when I move my mouse over the game map, no unit or terrain data or features appear. This happens during both deployment and game play. I have played against only the AI so far.

I installed the basic game and then installed each update sequentially and started the game after each update to be sure it opened correctly before installing the next update.

Any help to correct this problem would be greatly appreciated.

I have not seen that, or recollect it being reported.

What version shows for the game? - it should show V 17.00 - Free on the main screen.

If not, then you didn’t install some part of the game correctly to the proper folder and will have to check that all paths for all patches are correct and agree with the default folder path:

C:\Shrapnel Games\The Camo Workshop\WinSPWW2

(Or whatever you installed to - if you installed the initial game to somewhere else, then you will have to alter each and every patch path to agree with your changed location)

Then unless someone else comes up as seeing that error - I'm stumped as I have never seen that one.

Try a complete reinstall perhaps?

I assume you know that terrain data will appear on the red bar at the top of the UI?
I ask because I once played a pbem with a new player and he was asking the same question as he thought an info box would appear where he was hovering the mouse. Needless to say, he read the manual after that game.

Otherwise, that is a strange one.

Thanks for the tip, Blazing 88's. I don't have a red bar at the top of my screen. I run a large monitor off my laptop, so I opened the laptop while the game was up to check its screen, and sure enough I have a red bar with terrain data there.

So I might have a monitor problem. Not really sure how to solve that one, either. But at least I've identified the problem area and I appreciate the info.

Any info on this monitor problem and how to resolve the game display would be appreciated, too. I have a HP 2709m monitor.

Are you running it full-screen? - if so, you will need to find out how to shrink the monitor so it is fitting the actual screen - usually via some buttons to adjust the X and Y on a proper monitor, no idea how to on a laptop - google the make and model and see if the manual is available online? - its how you get the instructions for your phone these days.

Or, try running it windowed - the free demo game only allows 640 or 800 wide modes though.

My windows 11 home offers 800x600 monitor mode. 640 is long gone, and I doubt there would be much screen real estate at 800 with its supersized task bar and giant icons!

(First thing I did with windows 11 was find a program that allowed me a thin task bar, and to move the icons left, though newer models of W11 allow left shifting, they do not allow you to have small icons and a thin task bar - so it was straight to review sites and then Explorer Patcher for me - back to a W10 type task bar, no silly widgets, the launch screen is better as well!)
