Hey dave, can you help me? I tried to make this into my Avatar but It doesn't want to go, I made it the right size(I think) and it was a JPG, but it won't show up. Can you see what magic you can work?

I just found a great source for python images - many of the terry gilliam animations (for example the giant foot, the animated Mr Gumby) would make excellent avatars.

Go to this site and click "image related" on the left, then have a look through. I think the "gilliamations" and "clip art" sections are particularly good for avatar hunting.
