Yes, I am back, with signs and wonders!
I'll put it back to 24-hour on Saturday, so that izaqyos doesn't feel left out.

Re: Yet Another Dominions Game - starting again
Another thing I should mention. If you're feeling lost and hopeless, your candles burning dim and your last fortress overpowered, rather than just not bothering to log in it would be really nice if you'd go AI. This way, everyone who is still in the game doesn't have to wait for the full 24 hours to expire between turns.
Thanks!

By world, it was a nice, crowded game ... perhaps I should now read "Small Gods" from Terry Pratchett ...

I didn't understand why you didn't use your virtue as SC vs. vanheim invasion.
Anyway they (van) sure have applied much force against you.
Their armies are deadly indeed...
I would reccomend "song of ice & fire" if you didn't read it by now

Re: Yet Another Dominions Game - starting again
Got to wonder why I got blasted. I mean, I only picked a Green Dragon, Dominion 1, no scales, and Return of the Raptor theme. Looks like I took great care in backing up my Pretender... but I backed the test Pretender.
Still, I don't think I would have done much better with a genuine Pretender. My Seraphs have been unable to take weakly defended enemy provinces. *Grumbles* The birdies are so feeble.

Re: Yet Another Dominions Game - starting again
Return of the Raptors might be the worst theme in the game. It takes a very powerful nation and turns it into one of the worst ones.
It makes the mages weaker and significantly more expensive. The Seraph inexplicitly goes from 100 gold to 140 for the Raptors. True, the Harab Seraph is only 90 gold, but it is nowhere near as good as the regular Seraph. The sacred Harab Elder is not bad at 270 gold, other than the lack of a random and the fact that it is capitol only. Which means there are exactly ZERO random magic schools in the whole theme! They even took away the wonderful, cheap Seraphine! Heck, the Raptors theme cannot even clam hoard very easily. And for compensation? It adds a couple of troops that are not worth buying, the Raptor and the Raven Guard. Big deal.
It is hard to believe that the developers thought this theme was a good thing...

I remember reading a thread long ago in which veteran players analyzed this theme.
They presented some ways to make this theme useful.
Sadly, I don't remember the actual arguments.

Re: Yet Another Dominions Game - starting again
While we're recommending books - you can't really appreciate Dominions until you've read the Oath of Empire books by Thomas Harlan. Dominions absolutely needs an Ermor theme that rips of those books more explicitly.

Here's Jurri, your favorite broken record (in top ten for three weeks and running) just to post a reminder for those of us with more than one game in the works:
