Re: Beginning of the Middle Age?
It might also be part of the "age of the game". IMHO
The late era's tend to be more army, and early era more magic. So in a game like this the late ages would be more able to take out the early age nations. But the ones that DO manage to survive into the late game could come back with a major magic punch.

Re: Beginning of the Middle Age?
Well, looking at the actual nation list tells a lot what kind of nations survive from early era: Mictlan, Pangaea, Vanheim, Lanka, and three underwater nations. So blood/bless nations and guys underwater. I think it has been remarked several times that this map does favor a bit UW nations, though.
Also, although many late era nations survive, they are awfully small. The median province size for nations with more than zero provinces are: EA 27, MA 26 and LA 21 provinces. Which just means late era fields a lot of survivors and then several big guys: Ermor, Atlantis, R'lyeh and TC.
Middle age, harder to say. To me it'd seem it's the one with most balanced going, with no huge 70-province nations and many nations at 30-40 province range.
But that's it for today's portion of useless statistics.

Re: Beginning of the Middle Age?
The start bonuses might be part of the equation as well. IIRC most of the late era nations were not popular and got bumps.

Re: Beginning of the Middle Age?
Okay, Folket will play LA R'lyeh again from next turn, so I am stepping down after my brief stint in the job. What a game!
Incidentally, my bet is now on LA Atlantis (and friends) to win the game. The rest of you better get organised!

Re: Beginning of the Middle Age?
Its also worth noting that EA Mictlan, Pangea, Vanheim, and Lanka all have troops which are comptent when compared to any age (Jaguar warriors, etc.)

Re: Beginning of the Middle Age?
Evidently I staled last turn. Some kind of confusion with switching back from my laptop .
Anyway, any messages I was supposed to get last turn, I didn't get - so resend in the forum, plz.

The mega-age and banners mods should be in the zip attached. I hope.
