Re: OT: The House of 1001+ Avatars
I gotta say, David, making avatars is a great service to our community! Anyone can easily distinguish a DEG avatar.
*pulls out clipboard and checks off "compliment David"*
Now, David, walk with me and let's talk...
You see, there are lots of us that are absolutely bonkers with anticipation over SEV.
*In an inconspicuous manner, slowly guides David back to his computer*
Well, what do you know! Your computer...
*pulls chair out and allows David to sit*
Comfy???
*Before David can react, quickly scurries out of room and locks door from outside, pulls out clipboard again and checks off "get him back to work"*
[through the keyhole]: Now David, please get back to work on SEV and stop being distracted with avatars. We'll let you out when we get a screenshot
*Plops down in guard shack outside door, inspects the contents of the small arms locker; pulls out clipboard and checks off "rubber chicken, silly string, water balloons and BFG 9000. It's going to be a long watch...*

Re: OT: The House of 1001+ Avatars
Please, Kerensky, if you change your avatar, post your old one on the forums. It's simply fantastic!

You would have to upload it Somewhere then, and use the link for your avatar on that other forum. However, some file hosters prevent this (it is usually called remote-linking I think). Tripod among others ban it, and will display a nice "File hosted by Tripod" picture if you try to use a file hosted on their server as avatar.

Right-click your avatar here and select properties. Highlight the address with the mouse and press ctrl+C to copy it. Then go to the other forum, find the place to enter the URL of your avatar, and paste.

This could however be a problem for Shrapnel, as you would be using their bandwidth for another forum. How problematic it is would depend, of course, of how many times avatars are displayed on another forum, and on whether Shrapnel has bandwidth-related problems.
On another site where I used to be involved, we had to shut down this sort of service because many of our avatars were used on other forums, creating in the end a major bandwidth usage.
