Re: Installing SE IV on New Machine. What a Night
What OS is that?
Try installing to c:\games\SE instead of program files.

Re: Installing SE IV on New Machine. What a Night
Atrocities: I had EXACTLY that same problem. the only way I fixed it was to uninstall, and then NOT install it to the default folder. (As per SJ's suggestion, I installed it in C: Games) After that, it worked fine.

No the drive is not any where near being full. The system is new. The drive has nearly 900 gigs left. It is the only archive that is doing this. odd.

Re: Installing SE IV on New Machine. What a Night
I am sorry, I stuck with XP sp2 for the OS. I am now thinking that perhaps Vista would have been the way to go. Then again, I am sure, given what has previously been discussed in other topics, that I can have a dual install of both XP and Vista when I wish to do so. Thanks guys. While I was never able to get the rar to work, I was able to copy if from my old HP POS which by the way, has a new spiffy Geforce Card, better than the one that had gone bad. Thank you BFG Technologies.

Re: Installing SE IV on New Machine. What a Night
Have you tried installing from the admin user profile.
Easy way to get to it: from the desktop go to the start menu and select log off. then log off when it asks if you want to switch users or log off.
At the xp log-on screen, hit ctrl-alt-del twice. type in "administrator" and the password if set -otherwise leave black- and bam! your into the admin user space.

I have administrative privileges on this PC. Did not make a difference. The file simply would not allow itself to be extracted.

Re: Installing SE IV on New Machine. What a Night
There error occures with "moving" the file - what means that it (most likely) already has been extracted from the rar archive to your temp folder, but cannot copied over to the SE4 folder for some reason.
Maybe there's a file with the same name already which cannot be overwritten because it's either write-protected or in use?

Re: Installing SE IV on New Machine. What a Night
Do you use Google Desktop? I had some problems with it while installing new programs, so i normally stop it every time i need to install somethin new...
BTW: Google Desktop can cause errors in SEIV turn processing, so if you want to play SEIV, stop Google Desktop whilçe playing...

Re: Installing SE IV on New Machine. What a Night
Uninstalling Google Desktop is probably the best option... such an annoying, useless program.
