Re: OT: Installing a second OS
This was what i did in my notebook (1ghz, 256mb ram, 30gb HD):
1. Created a DOS 6.22 boot cd with Dos, Partition Programs and win98 install, created a 2gb partition for win98 and 26GB partition for "shared files", both with Fat filesystem.
2. Installed win98 in the 2gb partition, and installed all the necessary drivers for win98 (be sure to get them in the net for your hardware).
3. Used win98 do convert the Fat filesystem to Fat32 filesystem.
4. With a bootable WinXP i created a third partition with 2GB and a NTFS filesystem, and installed WinXP in the new partition (WINXP detected WIN98 and created the dual-boot).
5. Installed all the winxp drivers.
6. Done! I have now a dual booting system with win98 and winxp, with three disk partitions, a 2gb with FAT32 and win98, a 2gb with NTFS and winxp and a 26gb with FAT32 for files and programs that both OS use.

Re: OT: Installing a second OS
Isn't it generally recommended to have 4 or 5 GBs or so for the XP partition? It is fairly bloated, afterall.

Re: OT: Installing a second OS
How well does XP like sharing HD's? Do I need to manually go in and set the jumper on my master HD if I add a second slave?

Re: OT: Installing a second OS
OS is irrelevant for hard drive jumper settings. That is all controlled at the motherboard's BIOS level. You most likely need to set the jumpers on the hard drives appropriately. I usually just try to have everything on cable select and plug the drives in to the correct slot on the data cables.

Me. Because its cool.
Honestly, I'm looking to learn some Linux and do some dev work on it, but I still need to do dev work in Windows, and Linux has some servers I might be using in the future.
Thus, I created a four partition system with RHEL 4 and Win2k pro.
Its a sweet setup.
