How can i destroy these ship class?

I play a SEIV mulitplayer game with some friends, but i have a prblem with one of them. He has good attack and defense skills(impressive) and his ships uses shield depleters, engine killers and repulsor weapons.
For all of us its impossibly to destroy his ships, because he destroys our engines and then we are pushed back to the other and of the map. THe AI cannot handle that problem, so are battles between 400 ships on my side and 100 ships on his site are lost by me.
I will be great if you can tell me a funtcional ship type who can defend those ships.We are next to stop the game, its not fun to be chanceless.
