Re: Space Vikings sneak preview
Yeah, I can't wait to start work on the speech files, I intend to draw heavily on the legends and Gods to create mythological metaphors for game events:
"All the things in all the worlds wept for Baldur's death. I suspect you shall not be so well mourned."
...and so on.
I also intend to make frequent and innapropriate use of the ö character=-)
------------------
"Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?"
"I think so Brain but, if you replace the P with an O, my name would be Oinky, wouldn't it?"

Å, Ä and Ö?
Didn't the Vikings use runes and not the alphabet?

Re: Space Vikings sneak preview
Yep the Vikings used Runes, but the language when translated into latinised script contains many letter variants including the seething th/dh sound.
The tears for Baldur phrase sounds good.
"No man is so generous he will jibe at accepting. A gift in return for a gift,
No man so rich that it really gives him
pain to be repaid."
"Better not to ask than to overpledge
As a gift demands a gift,
Better not to send than to slay too many."

Re: Space Vikings sneak preview
OK, another new update is out. Lots of new images, and quite a few replacements. I'm also showing *all* of the images so far rather than a select few.
I've also added a few sub pages:
:A "what is this?" page for ppl who see my page but know nothing about space empires.
:a history page which shows what has been changed, and when. It also has some of the old images which I discarded.
:a notes page which shows my thought processes as I work on the shipset. Thought this might be interesting / useful.
:a mod data page. Details of this in the parallel thread "Modders and shipset creators - please read".
Feedback in this thread and/or the parallel thread as appropiate will be very much appreciated.
Oh, and you'll see I have come up with 2 designs for the fast courier. I can't decide which one I prefer - please voice your opinion here.

Re: Space Vikings sneak preview
I vote for Fast Courier 1. #2 doesn't look quite right without a neck (IMO).
Great shipset, dogscoff! Makes me want to plunder the high seas!

...bump... (for Rollo)
{Plundering the high seas}
Funny you should mention that, I plan to make Space Viking images for the Pirates and Nomads mod as well, for maximum pillaging pleasure=-)

Re: Space Vikings sneak preview
Dogscoff, CivII has some city names for Vikings. Have/want a list to incorporate into your shipset?

Re: Space Vikings sneak preview
Thanks, it could be worth a look. I've been wondering names ile what to use, since I think Norse mythology has already been used for other shipsets. I was considering a list based on different beers, or maybe "pillage", "burn", "loot" etc, but it would be hard to think of enough of those without clashing with other lists.
Please post the list or mail it to me, I'll have a look.
