Re: What do you expect to be in the next patch?
For the non-English speaking, I'll try to clarify.
What happens when any game releases a patch? Not everything is the way everyone wants, no matter how much work or effort or balance is taken into consideration. So in effect there will always be someone who is not satisfied. And those who are not satisfied take the most opportune time to express that unsatisfaction (usually 2-72 Hours after the patch) to have anywhere from a snide remark to a full fledged diatribe about how they were either ignored, the developers don't know the game, didn't have time, etc.
This is true of all games, so it will inevitably happen again and again. Though to be fair I also expect some amount of praise and thanks given to IW for whatever issue/aspect/favorite sombrero they felt was addressed in some way and agree with it in some fashion.

Re: What do you expect to be in the next patch?
Next patch ? It will be terrible! I still have had not enough time to play and understand the game like it is now ... next patch ? New things to learn ... new balance ... aaargghhh!!!
Half of the suggestions/problems that rise up in that forum are far away from me ... I got the game in decembre and still there are many races and themes I never played ... soem I never met in battle! ...
So the only things I'll really expect in the next patch is some improvement in the modding part to help expert players create great new mods and maps.
It will be great also a (stupid things, not time to waste developer time) name list options ... just the opportunity to have a file (ctis.nm) with a name list from which the computer select the names of leaders for that nation ...
good lucj and good play to all

Re: What do you expect to be in the next patch?
I expect every forumite to be included, from the Norfleet Heavy Infantry (+50 when defending castles :-) to the Stealthy Gandalf unit, which has 1 hp, 1 att, 1 def, a sling and the "Never healing wound" affliction, but which is still useful if you figure it out properly.
Here's my flavour text:
"Tristan is a Pretender. He can't ever become a god, but is very good at pretending he knows what he is talking about. Magic is difficult for him to learn, as he spends too much time playing computer strategy games. His people don't realise he is their pretender, and tend to mill about in confusion waiting for something decent to turn up. He is worried about global warming, his recycling efforts mean your nation can not take Heat 3."

Really cheap shot: I expect master passwords to work from clients.
I also hope that it will be possible to use mods with a text server. In fact, I just generally hope that the text server improves :-)
If not, I will take revenge by coding a Dominions2 clone in eLISP, so we can all play from xEmacs. Come on. I know you are all scared.

Re: What do you expect to be in the next patch?
Having just gotten my copy of the new patch, I want to be the first to congratulate the developers on the excellent work!
I love the way the VQ is a non-issue now. Getting rid of all the other pretenders was a stroke of genius - hardly anybody was using them, and now that everyone has to take the VQ, they can't complain about someone else using them also.
Same goes for the solution to the "Mad Castling" issue. Now that you can't build temples, there isn't as much reason to build castles to protect non-existent temples. Of course, losing your temple on turn 2 with a Luck-3 setting is a little more of a problem now, but it gives an excellent opportunity to excel. "I won a 17 player game with no temples! Ooorah!"
And the updated text mode. Making all the units show up onscreen as upper/lowercase letters, a la Angband? Awesome. Lets imagination take over. And getting rid of the graphics modes means more concentration on gameplay.
Not so sure I like the way Wish was moved to being lvl-3 research though, but at least Arco starts with it as a national spell now, which is cool.
Great work!

In another stroke of genious, all nations are now identical so noone can complain about this either.
LOL

Re: What do you expect to be in the next patch?
That is a good idea Esben.
What if the map was altered into more of a board game. Each player could start with a total of 16 pieces. The front 8 could only move forward one space, or diagnal if they can attack.
You would have one main piece that you would lose the game if you lost it. This could be your pretender god.
You would have one SC piece that could move horizontal or diagnal as many squares as you want.
We would have to come up with what the other pieces do. Imagine how fair and balanced this would be, everyone would have an equal chance at victory.
AND... people could still whine about who gets to go first!

Re: What do you expect to be in the next patch?
How about making it so that all units, including the pretender, are immobile? Once you drop, er, place them on the map, they stay there until defeated in battle.
And by battle, I mean to say that when units are surrounded by units of the opposing color, er, nations, they are defeated.
This eliminates complaints about SCs being unbalanced also.
