I will let others answer #2 but I like your comment on Dom2. I think that the 2 games have alot in common which is difficult to see at first glance. Both games have extensive setup choices which allow you to build your nation in a way which supports YOUR method of play. And enough variance in play that you feel as though you are developing your OWN tactics and noy just learning the tactics/strategy that the programmer had in mind when they made the game.
Other than that of course its hard to see where space ships has anything to do with demigods and mythical creatures, but the games are both long-time survivors on my harddrive with the same level of experimental play.
