Re: Mod idea: SEIV Junior
You snake! No, I'm serious; it's not about pointed tongues or anything, it's about the kiddies who will (I believe) be deterred by the system names. I mean, they'd much earlier colonize a system called "Manhattan" than "Ishantrissti", even if the latter is better.

Re: Mod idea: SEIV Junior
The mod sounds like a good idea to me. But keep the names. Kids like weird names.

Re: Mod idea: SEIV Junior
I would assume that you'd name the systems after known star names. Perfect for budding astronomers.

Re: Mod idea: SEIV Junior
Good idea, but not too "scientific" names like some in the EyeCandy Mod..... I mean, kids would respond pretty well to "Sirius", "Betelgeuse", "Arcturus" and so forth, but "121 Pisces 3" or "43 Omega" is not too appealing to the little toddlers of about 8 years old.

Kids like complexity. Ever try to play Pokemon?
Just how young are these kids of yours, geoschmo?
Is it ethical to hook a 4-year-old on 4X?

Nobody actually plays Pokemon DMM. It's just a scam to get people to buy a bunch of cards.
They are older then 4, but there is a lot of stuff in this game. I'm thinking they'd get a little overwhelmed at first and maybe lose interest. By giving them a less complex version I hope to get them hooked on the 4X philosophy, without drowning them in the micromanagment. I expect they will move on to the full game fairly quickly.
They could probably understand it enough to play against each other, or against the AI. But I wanted to boil it down a bit so they could play against me and still have a good time. They are pretty competative and really enjoy it when they can beat the old man.
