Also be sure to search for magic sites in your nearby provinces since many of them will allow you to recruit new types of units and often they are magical.

 What race are you playing?

 | With what I've learned I decided to start fresh. I'm now Machaka with the Egyptian looking Sun god (I called him Ra). I also upped the Independent strenght to 7. I like that, it s tougher to get started but is just as tough on the other AI pretenders.

I understand all the strategic stuff, and the tactical stuff, its just the huge amount of Magic items and spell that I'm just scratching the surface on. In games like this I usually don't worry about it until it matters, then I learn it. |

I knew I was forgetting something in my list! As Galdalf Parker said, you can recruit wizards from some provinces. |

 | Ok, newbie question here: is there a way to boost a pretender's level in a magic *school* (not path) after gamestart?

Thanks, it's probably a really basic question...but I am just starting out...

 | What I meant, and didn't explain well, was, at the beginning of the game, I choose my magic school levels (death 5, nature 2, whatever...)...is there a way to increase those after gamestart?

Thanks,

No, you don't. You choose magic path levels. You then research the different magic schools.
Boosting your magic paths is described above.

Alright....obviously, my command of the language (and rulebook terminology) is not what I thought it was...but I think I've got it now.
 thanks!

Except when fighting in cold (and Wolven Winter and/or Illwinter hurts even more than usual), and they don't have Jotunheim's solid province defense, and lizard Shamans (main researchers) won't transform into Nether Dart-casting terrors as with Utgård, and they don't have stealth capability, and they are weak in Astral and don't have easy access to any mass-movements spells except Stygian Paths (next to useless) except in Miasma theme, and...
But yes, it does have strengths. As does every other nation.

Why are you talking about Jotunheim? Caelum is The Way!
