I looked that DragonStrike thing up. LOL! Either you have started playing computer games from the cradle, or you're much older than I am. Roguelikes on the list might indicate the latter.

I first played it maybe 5 years ago, so I just find my games a bit later than others. Perhaps I'll start raving about StarCraft 2 in ten years or so.

Re: Favorite games
Favorite games are a bit hard to list, so I'll go with the most-time-spent idea:
1.Dominions
2.Roguelikes (predominantly nethack)
3.Alpha Centauri
4.Civilization
5.Majesty
Games I liked a lot thought didn't spend that much time on, comparatively:
*Knights of the old republic
*King of dragon pass
*Master of magic
*Conquest of Elysium
*Star Control 2

Re: Favorite games
Fun!
(Not in any particular order)
Dominions 3 of course.
Quest for Glory IV: Shadows of Darkness (Best game music ever).
Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn (NWN isn't half as good).
Planescape: Torment.
Rome: Total War (largely due to mods).
Master of Magic.
Syberia (in large part to cool story and aesthetics)
Tie Fighter (MUCH better then later "X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter")
Crusader: No Remorse
Syndicate (needs a modern remake IMHO).
This may change as I think about it more.

Re: Favorite games
top games so far in this thread, with votes:
Dominions 3 -- 15
Master of magic -- 9
Starcraft -- 6
baldurs gate -- 5
Star control 2 -- 5
Alpha centauri -- 4
CIV -- 4
Xcom 1 -- 4
All these i know save of Xcom that I know after terror of the deep and alpha centauri that I missed somehow.
Also lot of the games mentioned are in my liking but didnt fit on only ten. I have to check the rest that i dont know of.

Read the documentation found by typing "?".
Then download the Michael Mayday graphics mod. The Dwarf Fortress graphics are not actually really ascii characters, they are wrote to the screen through openGL (I believe?), so you can replace those graphics with more eye pleasing graphics .

Re: Favorite games
In reverse-chronological order, an imperfect view:
Dominions series
Combat Mission (series)
Space Empires III & IV
Myth: The Fallen Lords & Myth II: Soulblighter
Tigers on the Prowl (series)
Cybercon 3 (Atari ST)
Dungeon Master (Atari ST)
Omnitrend's Universe (Atari 8-bit)
Necromancer (Atari 8-bit)
Encounter (Atari 8-bit) <-- holds my record for most joysticks ripped apart during play!
Star Raiders (Atari 8-bit)
Adventure (Atari 2600)
Also:
Roguelikes (various)
Dwarf Fortress
First-Person Shooter games with very lethal weapons, taking cover an important tactic, and no bunny-hopping (various).
Various sims and wargames and adventure games.

Re: Favorite games
I like sins of a solar empire less than galactic empires.. I quit it after a few started games.
PS you get less ganged-up upon if you actually start completing a few missions for otehr races. It helps a great deal if 3 races want you to target another race.. DO IT or basicly you'll die from all 4 races and try to stay neutral (relatively, or just defendeing a bit) untill you get such a target.. all my (al be it few) games I saw this happen... usually once you are halfway through destroying that nation they will want you to target another though.. which probably doesn't fit in your plans then.. but hey.. you are way positive in their favor then .
MoM was great.. I've played it a few times on dosbox in the last years but really... it's way to easy.. the idea is great.. 2 worlds
Myth was nice too I'll admit
populous was nice even the latest version

New and different undead nation? Try Souls of Shiar. Including new powerfull holy magic.
In for a whole new sort of game? Then try my scenario map Gang Wars.

Actually, if you are already attacking an enemy, your first mission from the other races will be to continue to attack them. The more AIs there are, the better the results.

MoM too easy? With the latest patch? Without white magic?
