Actually if you talk to computer techs thats a funny subject. Many of them end up charging for 1-hour bench time for things that werent broke. People tend to leave their computers running. When something goes wrong they unplug it, clean off the embarrassing dust, and take it in to the shop. But just unplugging the machine, cleaning it, bouncing it around abit in the car, then pugging it back in is often all that is needed.

We have a pair of ancient IBM dot matrix printers at work that will occasionally get hung up on an error code that basically says that the board needs replaced. However, a much more convenient and cheaper fix is (I kid you not), to pick up one end of the 50lb printer and drop it. Works every time and it is priceless to see the faces of the new employees. I first learned of this fix from an IBM support tech over the phone. I seriously thought he was pulling my leg.

I had a woman tell me once that she would have but the term scared her, and we always say it so roughly. That we should call it something like "have you asked the computer for a start-over yet?" instead of "did you reboot?"
