Re: Space Vikings sneak preview
Hello dogscoff,
thanks for bumping this thread. I didn't know it was actually you who is doing the Viking shipset (duh, I kind of feel stupid right now). Maybe my post in the other thread sounded a little odd. I thought I was talking about a third person...
Anyway, I've looked at the preview shipset. I love it! I also vote for Fast Courier #1. (Whats a FC anyway, which mod?)

Wierd coincidence... I've was drawing Space Viking comics at school. ooOOOOoooOOOOooh!!
ANyway, permission to use it is yours as soon as it's working. I'd also love some help with the AI files, although I'm more worried about the "clever" stuff (i design files, anger files) than the spech, which I already have some ideas for.
Anyway, we're getting off topic. Can we continue this conversation on the proper thread? I'll bump it to the top of the forum for you...
Well, thanks a lot for your permission. I am sorry that I can't be much of assistance with the AI files. I only have this game for about a week now and have no experience with designing AI at all (always willing to learn, though). Maybe we should ask some of the expert modders about this (suicide_junkie: HEEEEELP !). All I can offer you is mostly moral support and my opinion on things.
Maybe the small and medium freighter should look somewhat more like the big one (which looks great). Right now they look more like the warships (destroyer, light cruiser). Anyway, if I can suppport you in any way, feel free to contact me (email in profile).
Keep up the good work,
Rollo (a Space Viking by heart)

My AI experience is actually quite limited, basically only what I needed to get AIs working with all of my modded components, shipsizes, techareas & such. I have read nearly all the Posts on this forum, though, and I'd be willing to look into any specific questions you have.

Re: Space Vikings sneak preview
dogscoff,
I've been making my own race portrait and flag for the Vikings. I doubt that you will include them in your set, but they will be be ones I'll be using (for the meantime). If you want to see them, I can mail them to you.

Re: Space Vikings sneak preview
Quik..vn: Thanks for the names. Probably not enough there for a full shipset, and the copyright thing makes me a little twitchy, but it's food for thought.
Rollo: Yeah I'd love to see your images. Post them or mail me (dogscoff@altavista.co.uk). You can even have some webspace for it if you want.
Thanks for the feedback too. The fast courier, corvette etc are to be used with Devnullmod. That mod doesn't even support additional images yet, but I'm hoping it soon will.
There are details of the mods supported on the site, as well as information about how and why I made each image and more besides. It's all linked to from the top of the main viking.htm page.
Oh, and don't worry about being an SEIV newbie - by the time I get the viking images finished you'll be an old veteran. (it's taking me ages to do them all=-)
Voting so far:
Fast courier #1 : 2
Fast courier #2 : 0

Re: Space Vikings sneak preview
Given that I recognize several of the names as modern-day cities, and that you could find them all in historical atlases, I really doubt there's a copyright issue.

Re: Space Vikings sneak preview
dogscoff, I have sent you the images. Have you received them?
suicide_junkie, thank you for your offer to help. I'll try and fiddle around with the AI files over the weekend. I bet I'll have a lot of questions (and I'll try to be specific about them ).

Actually, if we were really antsy about copyright, a good chunk of races and shipsets (read: Star Trek-based) would not have been posted. I put the copyright info as a CYA for the post itself, since I copied and pasted straight from the CivII file.
