I've seen claims that DST doesn't actually give a net savings of energy, either, but I don't have a link handy.
I'll search for the link as well, but yeah it's been shown without a doubt that DST does pretty much nothing about what it was originally designed for.
That's ridiculous. Daylight Savings Time was promoted heavily by Benjamin Franklin as a way to cut down on the number of candles burned. And considering we use way less candles now than we did before I'd say it's been a resounding success.

The last time I used a candle was a few years ago, on top of a birthday cake for a friend. Yup, it's quite rare that I see candles lately.

The price per Barrel of oil comes down nearly $10.00 9 months ago, the price of gas takes a month to reflect that change, it lowers $0.10. Over six months it comes down $0.25 but in one day, fallowing a report that gas consumption is up, the price of gas goes from $2.65 a Gal to $3.20 a gallon. WTF!!!!!!! One DAY! And the Demo's won on the promise that they would stop this kind of price gouging. Yet they do nothing. Business as usual. We get lied to and and the politicians get rich off of the under the table deals they have going with the greedy oil companies.
The price of gasoline fluctuates like that because there is nearly zero inventory of gasoline, and there have been no refineries opened in decades. So, if something like Katrina hits and a bunch of refineries go down, supply takes an immediate hit, and prices rise. If there are reports of increased demand, that also raises prices since all the stations need to get more money to replenish their tank. The oil company leadership doesn't care because they know that the demand for fuel will always be there, so they can get away with it. Politicians can't do much of anything to change it, except perhaps remove all clean-air and water regulations so the oil companies no longer have the environmental impact excuse (this would be a bad idea by the way).

The consumer's only recourse is to find ways to use less gasoline. Everyone around here seems to think the 47mpg I average on my civic is great, but I can't help but think that we can do better. Wikipedia says US mpg averages 20, while European averages 40 and Japanese 45. And then we still have all the yuppies that believe they are entitled to drive behemoth 7-seater "light truck" SUVs down the freeway at 85mph, alone, with a ton of cargo in the back because they couldn't be bothered to unload it for the past month, guzzling a gallon every 8 miles if they're lucky, during their 60 mile commute to and from work every day (that's $45/day). If you want to blame someone, blame them. If those people didn't consume so much gasoline, and weren't so willing to pay these prices for it, then YOU wouldn't have to paying those prices either. Me, I'm just glad I only spend $40 a month for gas. Well, now that prices are up around $3.10 here, probably closer to $45-50...

And the Democrats might have said that the price of gasoline shouldn't be so high, but that's not the reason they won. But the thread is already off-topic enough.

I'm not going to change my clocks that didn't automatically change. I'll just continually believe that I'm an hour early for everything.

Hi Atrocities.
Micro5oft have just admitted that not all PCs updated the time zone as expected. See article for fix.

But mine did! Doesn't anyone else see the sheer magnificance of that fact? I mean, what are the odds?

No really... What are they?

Really? I've never met anyone that considered an average gas-using car (~20,25 MPG) to be "awesome." Just plain normal.

I've gotten in a few arguments with people, especially those that keep buying SUV's regardless of the gas prices.

Last time I used some candles was during the 5 day power outage after those massive storms in October last year.
