Re: Complete List of Mercenaries, Mercs, Mercenary
It is my observation as well that the inquisitors do seem to progress in order.
I asked about mercs - and got sunrays list, which seemed to work pretty well.

Big thanks for that Gandalf. If that is the complete list of mercs then it certainly helps me to spot any that I've missed out.
(Edit) Upon cross-checking both lists, it would appear that the following two mercenaries don't appear in the list from the game code.
- Gote
- Gunter Blukraft’s Sonnenkinder
Someone more knowledgeable than me will have to have a stab as to why that is.

Ahh yes. Thanks for spotting that. I looked into it. Thats a common problem with pulling strings from the Dominions game code. Both of those names seem to use special characters which are not in my text-screens character set. So they dont display. I get only partial names which I deleted thinking they were not part of the merc set.

Re: Complete List of Mercenaries, Mercs, Mercenary
Maybe this should go into scenarios, maps, and mods, but...
...shouldn´t mercs have an autospawn of their unit type of choice? (so they replenish)...
... can it be done through modding?...

Re: Complete List of Mercenaries, Mercs, Mercenary
Yes, modding can create autospawns. I'm not positive if the autospawns can be marked as mercs (can't be selected, die if they retreat) but if it works like Pans' autospawns they will show up in the merc squad. (I expect the merc-ness of merc units is a property of the commander and not the units.)
However, I wouldn't put this in the base game. Mercs are meant to die horrible deaths as siege fodder, not replenish with time. The merc leader is just gambling that he can get his troops killed off without dying himself, so you won't think it's worth the 80 gold to re-hire him alone. Too bad he forgot about his magic items.
-Max
(P.S. I actually don't kill mercs for their magic items. It makes me feel like David murdering Uriah. Icky.)

Re: Complete List of Mercenaries, Mercs, Mercenary
The merc autospawning to replenish is something I would like too - where does all our gold go if they continue asking the same amount for 50 or for 0 men?
But it's very unlikely to happen unfortunately

Re: Complete List of Mercenaries, Mercs, Mercenary
I am a NOOB in every way but I have always taken early advantage of Mercs in any game I have ever played.
What I have noticed is (and I havn't lasted long enough in a MP game to see if later it resets)if you get the mercs and use them up (get them killed off) they are done and will not show up agian.
To me its a double bonus as I get the benifit and after I get them killed off on the last turn that I need them, they can't be used later agianst me.
They may reset later but if you notice sometimes they only have 1 man or no men left or they are just gone.

I consider the proportional increase to be "Imminent Danger Pay". The boss knows you've killed off most or all his troops with your warmongering ways!
