Everyone I know who i got to try the game is playing as phantasm.
Better for me to give advice on since I know it best, but for a guild you do want some diversity, especailly necessary are Green and Red. Green to disspell guildmates who get spell locked, and red to throw volcanic eruptions at enemies who are low on forts.
Blue is a good jack of all trades, but if the guild really gets in a war it's nice to have Nether and Erad able to put up their spells easilly. Blue can cast them, but it costs alot more.
Then again I doubt we'll be getting into much trouble, but you never know
