Re: Introduce yourself!! :-)
Welcome Leo.
Im a Viet Vet also (USAF retired, no action).
To slow down the AI try turning up the Independents. You will tend to make better decisions of who to attack and who to go around in the early game than the AI will. It will keep the AI from rushing you.

Re: Introduce yourself!! :-)
Gandalf
Thanks for the advice. I did that and it slowed me down more then the AI.:>( I know some of the errors I made but want to salvage this game if possible. I will try a few things this weekend and if still stumped will post a thread for suggestions. I enjoy the discovery as much as the stategy so I don't mind the AI giving me a lesson as long as I can learn from it.
By any chance did you spend any time in Turkey or Japan?

Re: Introduce yourself!! :-)
Welcome LeoTheLip.
I'm a little young for Vietnam but my dad fought in the war for the army and saw some combat. Even took a bullet through his pantleg. Luckily they wore baggy pants and it missed his actual leg.
This game is so indepth and each nation has so many strategies. This game really is worth every penny. You should give a multiplayer game a chance once you've learned the game more. I really love the diplomacy of multiplayer games and the human opponents are much craftier.

Re: Introduce yourself!! :-)
You're right. Diplomacy would add a whole new layer to the game. I'll keep MP in mind. This game reminds me a lot of the Avalon Hill board games. Except the cat doesn't spill your stacks across the floor.

Yes I spent time at Incirlik, Turkey. I was a supply guy for a maintenance group. That was the closest I came to combat being their when their military turned over their government.

I was down there for a few days. Spent most of my time as a voice processing specialist at Sinope.
Eddie,
There is a subforum for mp. you may want to ask there for help. And I guess you are now the newest newbie.

A long time SEIV forumite. Played Dom 2 off and on and just ordered DOM 3. We'll see if I can figure out Dom 3

Re: Introduce yourself!! :-)
SEIV and Dom3 are very different ofcourse, but they're also very similar in some ways-if you like the one, chances are you'll enjoy the other, as long as you appreciate the basic concepts. Nice to have you here, Pathfinder.
