Well, short of playing completely by your lonesome with no AI's at all, you could turn off the random AI emires and only have the game place random neutral empires. That way they would all stay in their own systems and allow you the freedom to explore the galaxy.

Re: OT: The House of 1001+ Avatars
Geoschmo, thanks for the tip, I'll be sure to try it. I just wasn't aware that I could turn off all the AI players and still have the computer place 'neutral' ones. Interesting, verrrrrry interesting.
Cheers!

Re: OT: The House of 1001+ Avatars
So why do all the avitars have a phong-like highlight in the upper left, some sort of trademark?
I take it the program that you are using is a commercial product...

His trademark indeed. That and the frame that the avatars sit in, they are both trademarks < suck up> to the best avatars on the web. suck up>

..When I took it upon myself to create these avatar images, I decided on a 'look' and 'style' for the end product. I then 'stuck' with that 'look' to keep things simple. In doing so I established both a clean look and common visual style that has been recieved very well by the people here in the forums.
..Take your avatar pic for example. Before it was pretty much a run of the mill avatar.. once I decide to rework it, the results look like this..
1039822695.gif

..now I'm not going to say it's better or worse than the original, just that now it 'fits' in with the new look and style that I have been working with.
As with all my avatar pics you are free to use them or not. The choice is entirely up to you. But now you have a choice, and that is always a good thing!
I mentionned the art package I'm using lower in this thread, scroll down or back a few pages and you will have the answer to that question.
Have a Great Day, Cheers!

If by trademark you meant evil subliminal message I think you've got it.

Re: OT: The House of 1001+ Avatars
ahh, Sundog. Such a great game. I tried to get it running in an ST emulator a while back, but it would always crash. different disk images and different settings would cause it to crash in different places -- but it would always crash. too bad.
