Seems to be that you never found an AI fleet with more than 100 Baseships...

This is the AI behavior now...

Because only modded AIs use Virus weapons...

Re: Oh, this is fun!
I've never played this game against a human and I'm sure I'd get my butt beat a few times before I learned the ropes.
In other games where I've played pbem it always amazes me how different humans play as opposed to the AI.
In my latest game I think I'll drag it out so the computer gets bigger and more powerful fleets to give some of my tactics a serious try.
One problem I have tho is unless I choose a warlike race my people are always getting unhappy when I defeat an invading fleet. Even with religous facilities or urban pacification centers.
Stupid ingrates!

They don't? Hmm. I didn't know that. If i'm not mistaken they did open a WP in a system they had explored but i'm not sure. I'll keep an eye on that once i'm at war with them.

Re: Oh, this is fun!
Okay I finally got my butt whipped at a heavily defended planet.
I had 45 ships, about 4 dreadnaugts,3battleships ,1 heavy aircraft carrier w/large(heavy) fighters and the rest cruisers and destroyers. I entered the enemy system had no prolem for the first 6 planets. Then lost a battleship and a dreadnaught to the next planet. The Last one I could see was armed to the teeth,so I went tactical.
In addition to 25 satellites,a base station and a small warship of some sort his main planet had like 100 weapons platforms. I took out about a third and was lucky to have one badly damaged battleship limp away.
Next time I came back with a few dreadnaughts and two basestations armed with 23 large drones each. Each drone had 2 shields and 2 antiplanet warheads. They were able to defeat the point defense weapons and wiped out the planet(and moons) while all my ships stayed back out of range.
Looks like thats going to be my tactics for awhile until I come across something more difficult.
What a great battle!

I am pretty sure that once the AI has all systems explored (ie. Ancient Race), and determines that it is cut off from the rest of the map, it will pick a random system that it does not currently have a path to, and open a warp. That could be the case where they open a warp to an "explored" system.

Re: Oh, this is fun!
Well,I tried some ground assaults with my troops with only 50% strength.
By the time I send 2-400 large troops in against 85 militia there's no contest.
By this time the AI has really heavily defended planets,so I seal him off from his reinforcements by closing the warp points and either use anti planet drones or invade with troops.
Been working out pretty good.
My next experiment is to try boarding parties. I've never use those before.
