Re: Possible list of candidates for Governor of California...
They were talking about this on the Radio this morning on the way to work.
The question that came up and no-one could answer 100% is, can Arnold Schwartzenegger run for the Presidency, being not born in the US?

Re: Possible list of candidates for Governor of California...
The answer: No.
To be specific:
"No person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained to the age of thirty five years, and been fourteen Years a resident within the United States"
Article II.

Actually, it would depend on how the Supreme Court decided to interpert the commas in "No person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution". If they go with (No person except a natural born citizen) or (a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution) then no, as he wasn't a natural born citizen, nor a citizen at the time of the adoption of the constitution. If they go with (No person except a natural born citizen) or (a citizen of the United States), (at the time of the adoption of this Constitution) and ignore the Last bit, then yes, as he has lived in the US since 1968 (~35 years ago) and became a citizen in 1983 (~20 years ago). He's been a resident of the US for > 14 years, and he's over 35. It all depends on the Supreme Court. They would probably go with the first, and say no. Probably.

The way the Supreme Court has been performing as of late, they'll do whatever tickles their fancy at the time.

Re: Possible list of candidates for Governor of California...
Which is the reason I mentioned it, and emphasized "probably".
