This is very comforting, for I am an impatient man, and tend to cram as many engines on my ships as possible. This is one reason why I love QNP - I can squeeze approx. 14 move on scout escorts with starting engines! Nothing like those to find out about your local space NOW.

Re: Favorite Ship Size Poll
I usually use the destroyer in "early" game, because I usually spend research on racial techs fairly early on. Once the Light Cruiser is available, I'll use that. The Cruiser I only use for Space Yards. The extra control requirements, etc. mean it's not much better than the LC for combat; I'd rather wait to get the Battle Cruiser and phase out the LC's for BC's.
For late game, I generally go with baseships as "flagships", escorted by BB's or DN's. The BB's are fast enough to engage the enemy, generally slowing them down enough for the Baseship to arrive and finish the job. I've also experimented with putting fighter bays on baseships, with less success (usual problems with fighters in late game when everyone has lots of PDC). I keep using LC's in late game to carry repair bays, as dedicated PDC ships, or as boarding vessels.

Re: Favorite Ship Size Poll
And no one mentions the carrier ships... carriers are nice IMO. They are hard to get fully stocked (it takes forever to build enough fighters for a big carrier) but those fighters can really devastate everything (except a PD ship, but...). Anyhow, Carriers arent even in the poll! See how biased this poll is! Bloody murder!

The two will hover, spinning inches above the ground. With a giant buttered cat array, a high-speed monorail could easily link New York with Chicago.

Re: Favorite Ship Size Poll
Somebody mentioned that Light Cruisers are a good size: Since you only have to comit half of the 800KT to fighters, you can have a light cruiser with heavy mounted weapons and fighter escort to boot.

Re: Favorite Ship Size Poll
Well... fighters are pointless after a short while, so carriers can't be too effective. j/k
This is a poll about warships, not fighters! I don't have transports in here. Would you like to complain about that too? j/k

Re: Favorite Ship Size Poll
in early game, yes, I would like to complain about it. An early transport chocked full of sat cargo, can be devastating. I have glassed several AI planets using these. One ship, 9 sats, C-YA wouldn't wanna B-YA. and hmm, sats don't use supplies iirc.

Re: Favorite Ship Size Poll
LOL! I knew someone would! I still stand by my statement that this poll is for WARSHIPS. In fact, I will edit the original post right now!

Re: Favorite Ship Size Poll
Besides (here we go ), Intent has to play a factor. If i build a small transport and max the sat/cargo for the sole purpose of attacking enemy planets and ships, then it is a warship, as I intend it for that purpose. Aside from whether or not I put an early PDC on it, it is still designed for battle. they also make nice fish hooks. The AI can't resist a transport thinking it will be an easy kill, but supprize is the blue plate special when they have to face 3 stacks of sats carrying seekers.
I don't design them for the main purpose of being a planet satellite/population carrier, altho they work nicely for that too.
Anyone else use designs/combinations like this early game?

Re: Favorite Ship Size Poll
A warship is an armed ship. A ship that launches satellites is by no means a warship. A supply-generating ship is designed to go with the fleet and enter battle. Would you call it a warship? I wouldn't.
