When I ran the numbers I got 18!! This number was arrived at by doing the calculations in the order they appear.. 32x3 = 96, 96 / 2 = 48, 48 - 20 = 28, 28 + 8 = 36, 36 / 2 = 18!
I tried to get 32 but the closest I could get was 34.. ((32 x 3) / 2) - ((20 + 8) / 2) = 34!
So my question is How you get 32 as the answer Fyron?
Cheers! According to standard algebraic precedence of operation, division comes before addition, so the order should be:
((32 x 3) / 2) - 20 + (8 / 2)
48 - 20 + 4 = 32

Re: OT: How old are you ?
Well, when I gave the problem I never told you it was proper math now did I? Math is math.
And yes David, you got it right. Buy a drink on me at the Cantina for figuring out the problem.

Re: OT: How old are you ?
Yes, math is math. What you did is not math. There are mathematical standards for a reason, you know.

Re: OT: How old are you ?
Yep. I didn't post but calculated before Fyron posted.
I was surprised you had aged so rapidly!! (32 is the answer)

Yes there are standards.

Actually yes it was math. If it wasn't math I wouldn't have numbers and a possible right answer if you did the math the way I intended you to do it. Just because I didn't follow the standards of math doesn't mean it's not math at all.

Ack. Wasn't this thread for members to introduce themselves... and tell everyone a little about who they are?

Hey? does this mean I just got laid by an algorythm? I guess I failed 'standard algebraic precedence of operation' but I'm a master of the 'minimalist mathematics K.I.S.S. precedence forlulae.' Therefore I got the right answer, because I kept it simple and assumed the person that formed the formula was not a decendant of Einstein. (besides, the fact that the formula had no "()" to divide the equation in proper fashion, it was left open for interpretation. I'm a better intertreter than you fyron, but you are evidently way better than me when it comes to 'Real' math!
LOL Cheers!

You can have numbers and a possible right answer without it being math, actually.

I get 32 as the answer, too.
