Re: Rated Challenges Thread
Same as Primitive here, I would merely like to know if the Talisman is welcomed here or not. I gather that if is it on, both teams will go for it, and as quickly as possible. (I haven't made any calculation about how many turns you need, but my wild guess would be somewhere between turn 30 and turn 40)
As for openers, I do believe you could have three such ships running as early as turn 30. (And possibly before) You merely need 350,000 research points to have SM II, and then you have about 10 turns to get SM III for 450,000 research points (not much with three homeworlds). The main problem will obviously be to get the resources needed for the retrofitting part, so you might need one or two more turns. If you are really doing well, it might even be possible to reach SM IV in time (for an additional 800,000 research points), but don't quote me on that.
So I would be strongly against Warp Openers (and Warp Closers, as closing all wormholes would be quite a problem), but I don't have a strong opinion on the Talisman as long as both teams agree either to take it or to forget it. It wouldn't do if only one team had this device for example, while the other decided to invest in Organics Extraction.
Why Slynky, I need to get even for this certain KOTH game, but in the light of our recent games, I will be benevolent towards your people. Well, I will not put them in the same kind of thrall as Parabolize's subjects, if you get my meaning. (Am I too confident? It could be the aforementioned propaganda that is showing up)

Re: Rated Challenges Thread
I obviously hadn't been clear enough in my earlier edit. I had actually accepted a veto of Opener tech several Posts ago
So here is my proposed game:
The Grudge-Match of Doom
Mark/Slynky vs Primitive/Alneyan
Medium spiral (with teams together on their own side of the map)
3 Good planets
100000 starting resources
Yes to Intel
No to Ancient Race
No to Warp openers (by agreement, leaving all other stellar manip tech available)
Max ships
Max units
All other settings as default (so Religious is available)
Are we sufficiently agreed? Who can set up the game for us?
Mark

Re: Rated Challenges Thread
The Grudge-Match of Doom
Mark/Slynky vs Primitive/Alneyan
Add "no ruins"
Also, not that it's a big thing, but I get tired of warpholes always being at the edge...I like the danger of not knowing where they are, so how about "warp points located anywhere"?
And isn't there a setting for "limit Primitive's ship count to 25"? We should turn that one on, too.
As to game setter-uppers, Geo might be reading and put aside his school books for a moment. The Baron has assisted in this before but I know he said his time has become limited. Same for Tesco. Considering it's a game with quite a few high rankings at stake, Asmala might step in and get us started.
Whoever does it, should generate (with ruins turned off) a medium spiral map that "looks good" for a team game and one that leans toward the large size (I've noticed that the size of the maps generated with medium can sometimes be kind of small).

Re: Rated Challenges Thread
I'm serious, but maybe would be better to set out a call for a mapmaker. What about starting a separate thread for the grudge-match since I believe few people read the challenge thread every day (should help keep Gandalph P happy too )
Could also be fun to post some updates (and a bit of trashtalk) during the game

Nothing wrong with a bit of fun, I suppose...though I expect we will be tromped so fast there won't be any need for writing except for the epitaph.
I don't think Mark would mind a new thread...and I sent a PM to Asmala. I think he gets off work soon. Or course, he might be busy with something else.
