Re: Smiting Season (newb-intermediate, LA, CBM 1.92) submit pretenders
After looking at the map, I think I'd like to request a different one.
Roughly half the starting locations have only three neighbors. Such restricted choices, additionally with independents set to 7 .. makes a challenging start for bogarus.. even worse, please.

If a different map is to be chosen, I vote for a wrap around. No hiding in the corners and no one getting screwed because their in the middle.

i have to say i agree with bat/man. this is a tough map for anyone who is slightly cap dependent. But the sizing is right- i feel... otherwise this game will get really really big and unwieldy.

Re: Smiting Season (newb-intermediate, LA, CBM 1.92) submit pretenders
And I demand cookies... with milk!
Humor aside, I did note the start issue, but that's normally the case with most maps without a "no start" mp fix. Though honestly I have no qualms with a more luck based start generation as is the case here.
I do have a suggestion though if it's a serious enough issue for some players, I recall in a few MP games I was in (including Kindanoob), someone was kind enough to do a "no start" fix to the map. Basically selecting startable spots with as equal a footing as possible, with criteria like each start spot must have at least 4 neighbor and be spaced at 3 away from any other starting spot ...etc.
If needs must I'll volunteer to do this, though it'll be my first (preferably someone more experienced do this instead).
So Groundworm let me know, and if anyone with thoughts on the matter do voice them. I myself have no preference between a mp fixed start or a luck start approach.

Roaring Rhinos might fit the bill.
But i am fine if we keep this map- i feel the art is so pretty to look at.

Re: Smiting Season (newb-intermediate, LA, CBM 1.92) submit pretenders
After looking at Roaring Rhinos, I'm fine with it. To address specific concerns:
Roaring Rhinos has almost exactly the same number of provinces as Shahrivar, with almost the same distribution of land and water provinces. It shouldn't inflate the scale of the game. And it is, as requested, wrap-around. Though, after making several new games and looking at starting positions (about 25 different games), there are definitely some starting positions with only 3 adjacencies.
And I have no issue with 30h turns. Since several people have asked, I'll set turns to 30h. I've seen that done in some games, but I've always wondered: what's the advantage?
So, in sum: map is now Realm of Roaring Rhinos, and turn length will start at 30h.

Re: Smiting Season (newb-intermediate, LA, CBM 1.92) submit pretenders
Just one problem: I was able to successfully upload the fixed version of Shahrivar on to Llamaserver, but for some reason I'm having trouble uploading Realm of Rampaging Roaches. So I haven't actually made the modifications to the game yet.
Can someone assist in uploading the map so that I can change the game settings? Much appreciated!

Re: Smiting Season (newb-intermediate, LA, CBM 1.92) submit pretenders
Realm of Rampaging Roaches or Realm of Roaring Rhinos?
You can't upload these maps using their original titles, as they already exist on the server under these names. Thus you have to call it a different name, but unless you are altering map from the original, there is no need to upload it on the server...as its already there.
You have a link in the game thread for players to download the map from...and you,we, and I are good to go.
I think I am right in saying this...please jump in somebody if what I said was wrong.
Cheers,
HD
