Re: Tournament - Invulnerable Challenge
Any other opinions? As of right now, I'm leaning toward making it hotseat.
Cheeze, please hold off... I don't want you to get too far into it just yet if we decide to do a re-start.
I really feel guilty anyway. You are going to have to play this thing out a large number of turns to even have a chance of building a force substantial enough.... I'm wondering if I made it too tough (as is). If I re-do it, I will have a chance to tweak it a little too.

Re: Tournament - Invulnerable Challenge
I think it's not a big problem though the game isn't hot seat. Just make two shortcuts on your desktop, one launches the turn and one process it. You can even make a keyboard shortcuts so the turn processing is extremely easy

Wait one more week? Nope. I'll better live with this little discomfort than wait that long.

Could you explain this in more detail, please?

Re: Tournament - Invulnerable Challenge
I'm only 7 turns into the game, have setup my Home System, and have just started to explore.
I'll stop and wait for the hotseat game.
Weird start year - 2405.7 Do you want to start the game at 2405.0 or another round number?

Re: Tournament - Invulnerable Challenge
Wow,
Stone, I’ll play the challenge any way you make it. I’m saving it until a rainy day anyway, so I can play this in one continuous streak.

Re: Tournament - Invulnerable Challenge
Folks,
After considering the Posts...
I'm going to ask you all to try and play as is. It seems most of you are more anxious to get going, and I don't want to keep you waiting. Please try it out and see how it goes... so...
The Invulnerable Challenge has Officially Begun!!!
For those of you who find the extra step too annoying, my apologies. I can't really commit to a timeframe to re-doing the challenge via hotseat. My wife is expecting our first child this weekend... any day now... and if that happens... well... you know, I'll be busy.
So if there are any questions unanswered (I think most of you have the gist of how to process a simultaneous game), please ask again.
Turn 57 is an odd number. Just think of "Heinz 57." If I played out 3 more turns to get it to 60, you'd really be in trouble!!!
Asmala- I do not know exactly how to set up the shortcuts- could you elaborate a bit on the steps? I know using the Matrix Mod Launcher helps...

Re: Tournament - Invulnerable Challenge
The point of this game is pretty much suicide.
I really will be surprised if anyone can take out the AI home system. Go big or stay home.
The reason I put this together is that as I was playing, I thought... "Wouldn't that be a darn tough defense... hmmm... " I've always wanted to set it up to see how difficult it proves. Well, now it is in your hands.
One thing I promise is that even if you have to throw in the towel, you may learn some interesting things, or get some new ideas about defense...

Re: Tournament - Invulnerable Challenge
Here is the code of my batch files. Notice that when you run the Run turn.bat it informs that it's ready. However the turn is still processing at the backround (you can see it using for example ctr-alt-del)
The Invulnerable Challenge.bat:
code:
"C:\Games\Space Empires IV Gold\se4.exe" "C:\Games\Space Empires IV Gold\TDM-ModPack\Savegame\inv.gam" "password" "1" "TDM-ModPack"
Run turn.bat:
code:
"C:\Games\Space Empires IV Gold\se4.exe" "C:\Games\Space Empires IV Gold\TDM-ModPack\Savegame\inv.gam" "maximum" "0" "TDM-ModPack"

Re: Tournament - Invulnerable Challenge
I would love to hear some updates on the Challenger's progression.
Since I can't check in on your progression...
Can you all post in this thread or shoot me an email that you have begun, and maybe how far you've progressed?
What do you think about starting another thread called "Invulnerable Challenge - Spoilers" where players can post their progress, summaries, and debriefs? Participants can post their wrap-ups there, and this way, other players refrain from reading other participants' spoiler Posts (unless they really want to).
Since this game is run on the honor system, and, really, it's all about having fun, I don't think that would be a problem. I think many of us would find that very enjoyable...
