News Release For Immediate Release
Dominions 3 Enters Second Print Run!
And Lo, The Gods of Gaming Proclaimed It Was Good!
Hampstead, NC, 16 November 2006
Okay, so billions upon billions of folks (give or take a few hundred million) pre-ordered
Dominions 3: The Awakening, making it the largest pre-order in the history of Shrapnel
Games and bringing great joy to Shrapnel and the developer, Illwinter Game Design.
With such a resounding pre-order success how does it get even better? Why, from selling
out its initial print run within weeks of release!
Yes, Dominions 3: The Awakening, the turn-based fantasy strategy title that has
redefined the word epic, is now entering its second print run within seven weeks of being
released! The cult of Dominions is spreading, and with it comes a popularity rarely seen
in the world of independent gaming. Gamers are hungry for a deep, satisfying strategy
title that doesn't insult their intelligence in a quest to please corporate bean counters, and
Dominions 3 delivers.
Examining the phenomenon of Dominions 3: The Awakening one can easily see why
gamers have been so consumed with the game that they have forsaken work, food, and
even dates, all in the name of Dominions. Dominions 3 has thousands of play
possibilities, what with the 2000+ units, items, and spells included in the base game,
along with the fifty nations and twenty-one player slots. Moddability is easy, and thanks
to the new random map generator, there are now an infinite number of games available at
one's fingertips. Of course then there's also the fact that Dominions 3 is available for
Windows, Mac, and Linux, making it a game that unites, not divides.
For example, on the blog of Andrew Gross, Technical Lead for Security in the Windows
Serviceability Group at Microsoft, he wrote, "I got Dominions 3 in the mail and started
playing. I don't think there's any question that the Dominions series are the greatest turn
based computer strategy games of all time, but they're extremely time consuming."
Then you have Peter Berger, a Mac user, saying, "Dominions 3 is a traditional strategy
gamer's game. The designers made the game that they really, really wanted to play. And
that is somehow infectious."
Yes, in a world fraught with political bickering, religious strife, and too many traffic
problems, isn't it nice to see something that even Microsoft employees and Mac users can
agree on? Is that a sign of what could come to pass if Dominions finds its way into the
right hands? Could Dominions 3 bring peace to the Middle East? Would the Dear
Leader worry about building nuclear bombs if he was engrossed in Dominions 3?
But it's not just the fact that both sides of the computing aisle enjoy Dominions 3: The
Awakening. Everyone likes it! Finland's premiere gaming magazine, PC Pelaaja
awarded it a 94/100 giving it their Editor's Choice Award, and France's Cyberstratege
magazine give it a 9 out of 10, while GameZone gave it a 9 out of 10 and their Editor's
Choice Award. A simple walk through the forums will reveal the near-obsession that
fans of the game have. Isn't it time you join the masses?
